The Laver Cup next week will be his final ATP event, per his Twitter and IG.

My sports hero. Knew it was coming but it’s a sad morning.

The tennis player that made me care about tennis. Still a casual, but I would watch his grand slam finals.

He might get 1/10th the coverage Serena gets.

I was hoping for a light retirement tour next year, but it doesn't really matter.

I admittedly don't keep up with tennis that much, had he been active much lately?

Sampras v Agassi

Federer v Nadal

Was it ever any better for men's tennis than these 2 rivalries?

Great player. Seemed to do everything the right way throughout his career.

Dang kind of hoped to see him try to make one last Slam run like Serena.

Well yeah. US Open in NY vs Laver Cup in London. One was primetime on ESPN, the other might be streaming on Tennis TV.

I don't think he played since last year's Wimbledon. Not closing 2019 Wimbledon kind of TKO'd him, the pandemic hit, he was injured a lot, and that was pretty much it.

He hasn't played in over a year because of injury

The GOAT in my book. Got to see him play Indian Wells final against Wawrinka. The most complete and talented player ever without a doubt. Was hoping he'd pick a few tournaments to play next year as a farewell tour also (Australian, Wimbledon, and US Open). Only possible negative I can think of is he was a bit smug as MV calls him. He was better than you and he knew it

I remember when people thought winning Wimbledon in 2012 was Fed’s Sampras moment. Then he comes back and wins three more majors 5 years later.

An important distinction to make. Roger isn’t the GREATEST tennis player ever, that goes to either Rafa or Novak depending on how their careers end and who you ask, but Roger is, almost inarguably, the BEST tennis player ever. The best at tennis, not the absolute best at winning. Just pure talent, grace and instinct combined with excellent physical attributes.

Damn, was hoping for a farewell tour. If he's not playing a final act at Wimbledon, then his injuries must have really taken a toll.

Maybe he will pull a Brady.

If Fed decided to play one more Wimbledon before retiring, the coverage of that would be very similar to what just happened with Serena at the US Open.

No, Serena got all that attention at US Open and is going to play again to get more attention
I hope she continues to get beat by all the newcomers

Kind of a weird time to be a tennis fan. The two GOATs retiring basically together.

I've never known tennis without either of them.

The 2008 and 2009 Wimbledon finals stick out as the most memorable Fed matches for me win or lose.

2019 if he had been able to close

McEnroe vs Borg (yes I’m in my 50s, but watching “breakfast at Wimbledon” was my intro to tennis).
