re: Rivals La HS Football Preseason Rankings. - UHS / Dunham too low?

You’re right - Dunhams eighth-grader isn’t covering Easton Royal one-on-one. Then again, I’m not sure many DBs in Louisiana are - regardless of grade level. He’s the No. 1 WR in the country for a reason.
But one elite player winning a matchup doesn’t tell us where an entire team should be ranked. By that logic, Elijah Haven would probably do just fine against Brother Martin’s defense too. The question isn’t whether Dunham has an answer for Easton Royal. It’s whether there are really 30 teams in Louisiana that are better than the defending Div III state champs returning one of the top 3 QBs in the nation.
And as someone else pointed out in this thread - same for Evangel and Pop Houston.
I just have a hard time getting there.

That’s fair, and depth absolutely favors the bigger schools. But size alone doesn’t tell the whole story.
U-High has shown for years that it can play with those programs. Just look at their results v Catholic High in recent years.
The 2019 team was a small-school team that had 7-9 Division I signees, including a few SEC and ACC players, and you could make a case they were the best team in the state that year.
This year’s team isn’t loaded like that one, but they still have Knox Kiffin, another three-star in Emmanuel Moses, the LSU RB coach’s sonar WR, a highly regarded OL transfer from Mississippi, and a roster that’s been playing together since elementary and middle school because it’s a K-12 school. (Dunham does the same.)
Yes, the larger schools generally have more depth. No doubt. But when you have a college-level QB, college-level skill players, good coaching, and continuity, I don’t think being a smaller school automatically drops you to No. 30.
That’s really all I was saying.

Ruston has taken over North Louisiana
I'm interested in seeing how they do against Karr in the Dome

Ruston has their best team since 1990. They return virtually everyone and added a 4 star LB from Mississippi. They are ridiculously loaded and more importantly...Kyle Williams is back. True juggernaut of a team this season.

I think Jawn Curtis takes Division 1 Select this year

Don’t sleep on ASH. This is their best team ever as well.

I am not saying that either U-High or Dunham belongs in the top five. The larger schools generally have more depth, especially along the lines, and that matters over a full season. But both schools being outside the top 25 - and behind that many teams with far less recent postseason success - just seems odd.
Uhigh gets Catholic in the jamboree while Dunham gets them on the front end of the season so we will get a look at where they belong soon enough

It’s not 2001 beating WM isn’t a accomplishment

For sure beating WM now is not the same as beating the Don Shows era WM, no argument there. But going on the road and running the ball at will on them was still a respectable accomplishment. They are still a playoff caliber 5A team and beating them at their house added some credibility.. Of course Neville humbled Barbe the very next week. Just saying Barbe's offense will give many fits. We will see.

This is a moronic take. That 8th grader was almost 15, ran a 4.5 40, hits like a dump truck, led the team in tackles and has a very high football IQ. He’s Kyle Williams son so he’s been coached well almost his entire life. You’re a west Monroe guy so you’ll get to watch him wreck shite this fall since he’s back in Ruston. He’s a strong safety so he wouldn’t be covering Easton Royal anyway.
