Wasn’t it known Harbaugh made sure his players had lower academic standards while there? I’ve even heard that even about students that play smaller sports like women’s soccer. Obviously they are still pretty high standards but athletes definitely get some leeway.

Harbaugh did get the standards for athletes slightly lowered because otherwise it would be pretty difficult for Stanford to be competitive. You’re not likely to find too many decent football players with top tier SAT scores.
The second part is just what I’ve heard and seen from people that have gone or knew someone that played a sport at Stanford. My point in that is they get some leeway compared to regular students. A number of those athletes likely wouldn’t make it in without playing those sports. But they still have to be good students to have a chance. You’re acting like I said they’re accepting students with shitty numbers and faking transcripts.

Fairly certain it’s been like that for some time now.
Even football players at Harvard aren’t admitted by the same standard as regular students (well from a family members experience)

A 1060 on the old format isn’t awful, it just isn’t good either
It’s the 51st percentile

A perfect example of how even Stanford bends the rules for football players.

quote:It isnt "breaking news", but people tried to sell Sherman as making a 1400 on his SAT "because he went to stanford." Hell, there were multiple major news stories than ran that as his score.

Also, people will use the "its impossible to recruit against the SEC because our athletes ha ve to be geniuses" line that gets passed around.

quote:Isn't it pretty well known that the SEC has the lowest standards of the P5 schools as far as requirements go? I could be wrong. But I can remember a number of prospects that people don't expect them to play SEC ball because they should go to a better academic school (Lindsey Scott Jr & Justin Reid come to mind).

The Ivy League schools aren’t really going to make a difference in your life unless you will be awful at a hedge fund or can get into big investment banking
