Yeah, Coach Franklin is fantastic. I am happy for him and Virginia Tech, hope they have a load of success together

Like or loathe him, Franklin is a home run hire for VA Tech. He could finish there if he wants. Hes just the type of good, solid coach that can do that in a place like Blacksburg. Mike Tomlin like. He'll win enough to stay on solid footing. Different expectations.

This changed my (not very important) opinion of Franklin.

Penn state is going to regret canning him.

I think Franklin can get VT back on track. It seems like forever ago that VT was regularly in the top 25.

Always thought he did a great job at Vandy. Really good coach, should be solid at VT and dominate dmv recruiting.

Wasn't like he was bad at Penn State before it went off the rails this year. Had the playoffs started at 12 in 2014, he would have made it 7 times.

Franklin is one of the easiest guys to root for
He’s also a damn good coach. He may not be elite (who is though? Not many) but he’s damn good

This was a homerun hire for VTech. He can get them back to where they were in the 2000s. He will still probably lose any top 5 matchups. But there won't be many of those in the ACC either.

I will be surprised if Virginia Tech isn’t right back in the mix for conference titles and playoff runs. I’m not sure that VT is any better than PSU these days for championship contention, but VT has access to equivalently good talent in a much weaker conference.

I’ll go out on a limb and predict now that this ends up being the best hire of this cycle. I understand why Penn State did what they did. I don’t even think they were wrong to do it. But I still believe Franklin has it. A change of scene can be extremely powerful for a competent coach.

Arkansas and Auburn fricked up not making a huge run at Franklin. I bet both schools would pay more than VT.

This is a good “fit” for Franklin and Va Tech. I expect him to be competing for the ACC title quickly. He has recruited VA very well.

Its crazy these coaches go right back to the 80 hour per week grind to work for free.

Id be traveling the world for a year (or two), playing tennis with MILFs at a swanky club in Florida or Los Angeles, and trying to land a gig with Barstool or something that allows me to double dip.

The same people would melt if LSU had hired him

He will do okay but VT won't get back to where they were 15+ years ago just because of him. Great recruits aren't lining up to go to out in the sticks Blacksburg unless they can pay them enough.

As opposed to the sticks of State College?
