HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A state police report has concluded that the wife of longtime ESPN broadcaster Chris Berman had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit when she rear-ended another man’s car, killing them both.

The Hartford Courant reports that police determined Katherine Berman was speeding and did not apply her brakes before crashing into a car driven by 87-year-old Edward Bertulis. State police closed the investigation without filing any charges because both drivers died.

Bertulius was on his way back from visiting his wife’s grave at the time of the crash on May 9, 2017, in Woodbury. The family of Bertulius has filed a lawsuit alleging that a Woodbury restaurant served alcohol to Berman while she was intoxicated before the crash.

An 87 year old being behind the wheel is scary enough.

Most places it’s part of their responsibility not to overserve.

And their father is dead so frick you.

But just a fun fact, Louisiana puts 100% of the reaponbility on the person consuming the alcohol unless they are underage.

Just fake it like urban cryer and say she was on pills cause she couldn't remember. Or fake health problems.

Seems like personal responsibility should be much more of a factor than a bartender trying to gauge how drunk someone is in a bar.

No need to appeal to emotion my guy. It’s a fair thing to question. The bar had nothing to do with it and it’s not like the woman couldn’t have bought the same liquor in a Walmart and had the same thing happen.

That’s the position Louisiana takes.

But really you’re just not supposed to eye ball it.

You are supposed to watch how many drinks you serve someone.

How drunk someone seems is 1 thing, their BAC is science. Like you can’t his over the limit unless you have a certain amount of alcohol.

Doesn’t really surprise me that the biggest boozehound at ESPN was married to a boozehound.

Three times the legal limit is a lot of drinks to be served. I’d be curious to see the receipt from the bar.

The restaurant, if serving a drunk, probably assumed she'd take an uber home like a normal drunk person (especially a rich drunk person)

If alcoholism were to take human form it would look something like Chris Berman so this can't really be a surprise

I hadn’t heard that. A very sad situation all the way around.
