Farrell was mediocre and is twice the manager Ausmus is.

Fire Dombrowski! If he wants to get Tiger retreads, he should have gotten Verlander.

If we end up with Ausmus I will be disappointed. Cora or Gabe Kapler please.

I think Brad will end up being a great manager. He was one of the best defensive catchers I've ever seen

Boston seems like a crumby place to work.

But Ausmus must really knead the dough so he might agree to go there.

I get people using this logic to anticipate someone being a great manager, but since he has seasons of experience as a terrible manager, I will use that track record to judge him rather than his defensive catching ability.

I think they've been pretty forthright with the fact that Cora is their first choice. Ausmus seems to be the fall back candidate.

As an Astro fan, I can't agree that Ausmus was a great manager in Detroit. It would be a mistake if Boston hired him IMO.

Francona sucked until his teams were actually good. I think that's how that works

Crummy probably not an apt description, though it is tough. Fans are very baseball educated, and no one gets a pass from fans or media. The players/managers in Boston that get sideways with the media & fans are the ones that get defensive when things don't go well. Stand up guys have no problem, and I'm pretty sure managers that take that job realize that it comes with the expectation of a high level of success with this ownership group. I spoke with an LSU alum and former Sox player that occasionally guests on NESN last night about this very thing. I'm hoping some of the Varitek rumors have some legs, but I'm betting on Alex Cora.

I love what Dombrowski is doing... This offseason he going to go for a big bat, so the Red Sox will sign a Jay Bruce, JD Martinez, or he goes after someone like Hosmer and overpays... I can see another 100 million deal coming

You missed the edit. OP originally called him Bread Ausmus.

Ausmus had a top 5 payroll, a below .500 record, and regularly mismanaged his bullpen. He is a poor man's John Farrell, so why fire Farrell and replace him with Ausmus?

There is nothing wrong with Brad as a manager he's still learning but if given the opportunity he will 100% be a good manager someday

He had a team with a rotation of Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, David Price, Rick Porcello, and Anibal Sanchez all in their primes with an offense with Miguel Cabrera, JD Martinez, Torii Hunter, Ian Kinsler, and Victor Martinez and couldn't get out of the first round of the playoffs. Yes his bullpen wasn't the best, but he also didn't help it by being stubborn with his back end relievers and rarely changing their roles after continued failure.

He is not a good manager and never showed signs of improvement in his tenure with a loaded Tigers team. I would not want him as the manager of my favorite team.

Which it probably should be. If the Red Sox hire him, I will forever call him Bread.

i think it's a smoke screen, like cardinals did with the BS interview they had with Francona, they had no intentions on hiring tito, they were going cheap and hiring Matheny, the day Larussa left.
