This is a logistical disaster all over. Who is going to want to play for a team that resides in two countries? How do you arrange that with your family, children in school, etc? Then there is the headache with the taxes.
How do even start with free agents? You can’t. Nothing says stability like having home games in two different countries on a permanent basis.
As for Tampa and Montreal, why would either of these cities want to build a stadium that only gets 41 games?
There’s so much wrong with all of this, and it’s amazing that it’s still a work in progress.

Just rip off the band-aid and re-birth the Montreal Expos.

Local TV ratings in Tampa are actually good. Apparently they have a pretty loyal following of old codgers that like to sit at home and watch the Rays
They just dont go to the games
They just dont go to the games

Not arguing in favor of it, but a lot of the players families do not live where the player plays.
Tax wise, it is already a headache. They file a return in every state and country where they play even one game. Yes, it would effect their income, but not how complicated their taxes are.

I am one of the few Rays fans. I agree. This is insane. I think it’s just a bargaining chip to get a taxpayer funded stadium by ownership.
I hope they stay, but Tampa doesn’t really deserve a team considering the great product the Rays put on the field.

Because they need to build a new stadium.

I'd kill to have that kind of front office in Cincinnati. Instead we have a bunch of bums. Tampa doesn't appreciate what they have.

WHY??
b/c they are trapped in a POS stadium in an awful location that nobody is willing to travel to and their a-hole owners are looking for a way to force their way into a new Florida stadium or a stadium in a different city.

That's how many they'd get in a normal year where team stayed in one location. A split schedule makes it 40 and 41. Also, the city that builds the new stadium will get the team in full. Whoever doesn't won't.

We just traded Joey Wendle to the Marlins for a prospect to get to the 40 man roster limit. Damn. That hurts. Wendle will always be one of our favorites. Rays front office always seems to make the right decision, but I wish the Rays could have found a buyer for Kiermeyer.

The single guys will love the high quality strip clubs and legal erotic massage parlors throughout the city. Those shithole brothels in Nevada have nothing on what's in Montreal.

Yeah, they might get to experience it in 2027 when Canada lifts Covid restrictions.

This. And they need one badly too. Went to a game this year and it felt like going to the county coliseum. That organization is way too good to be playing there.

They have a great product with cheap tickets and can’t get fans. I have a hard time believing a better stadium with more expensive seats will bring the fans.
I’m also not convinced anywhere in Tampa is a good location. It’s a spread out city and that’s never going to change

How else are they going to find the revenue to pay Wander Franco?

It wont just be a stadium. There will need to be another destination attraction almost like Astroworld with Houston back in the day. I'm not saying St Pete needs an amusement park but something else, if they keep it in St Pete. Most Rays fans by me were transplants with Rays and their 2nd team and tourists.

Havent they discussed moving to Orlando area or is that a ploy?

He'll be long gone when big money starts to kick in. Another team will gladly pick up that contract as he pans out. Wash, rinse, repeat.
