I’ve seen a strong sentiment both online and in person of a desire to leave the ACC and join the big 10.

My question is why the Big 10? Not that geography matters much relative to conferences anymore, but the Big 10 is clearly the number 2 conference behind the SEC. Given the location of FSU it’s really odd to me that they’re clamoring for a move specifically to the big 10. What’s the reasoning here?

All my idiot FSU buddies claim the BIG 10 is not corrupt.

Big 10 is a nationwide conference that has more TV sets in markets than all other conferences combined. It's a smart play by FSU

In the end there will be 2, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the SEC to expand West and North.

That doesn’t matter if those TV sets don’t tune in, but regardless I’m not asking about the underlying data, I’m asking why the die hard Florida state football fan is clamoring for the big ten. If I went to Tallahassee and asked 100 of them I doubt the first one would mention TV markets, so I’m wondering their true motive

The Big 10 is a MUCH more prestigious conference than the SEC. The academic affiliation alone is enough to make the move.

On the sports side, Big 10 history and tradition is unrivaled, and it's schools have national followings, especially with the recent 4 additions.

Michigan, OSU, USC, Penn State, and Oregon as the football anchors with storied programs in Washington, Nebraska, Michigan State, Etc is something no other league can match.

No

Why they want the Big Ten is because they don’t have any Florida teams yet. If they can be the first they can have veto power on Miami joining, for example

How many national championships WITH the additions do they have in football AND basketball in the last 30 years?

Academics sure but lets not act like the SEC hasn't run college football since 2000 and it doesn't look like it'll stop anytime soon.

Show your work. The SEC runs college football. I’m asking why the FSU football fans prefer to join the #2 conference hundreds of miles away and not the #1 conference in their back yard.

There's a hell of lot more going on with conference affiliation than football, or even sports.

WITH the additions the big ten has TEN. TEN total COMBINED basketball and football championships in the last 30 years.

That’s counting championships such as the two 90s Nebraska teams that were nowhere close to being a “big ten championship”.

The SEC without the additions has 6 basketball championships alone WITHOUT the additions.

I’m not going to add up the football ones because I don’t want to embarrass the big ten posters on here.

16 of the last 22 national champions have come from the 2024 SEC

4 of the last 22 have come from the 2024 big 10.

This is a sentiment they’ve developed in the last year, but more specifically and strongly in the last month. You think the historical prowess of Nebraska and Michigan State as football schools weighed into this sentiment?

No shite. Football is the crux of these fans strong feelings towards leaving though. Are you purposely being dense? They’re up in arms to leave the conference because of football. That’s not even up for debate, my question, for those football fans leading the charge, is why big 10

The ACC isn't too far behind the Big Ten academically.

They get it. We get it. You don't get it.

Weird, right?

True. Missouri and Kentucky were slave states that remained in the Union. Oklahoma is culturally a Southern State. I don't see how the SEC expands beyond the confederacy, slave states, and Oklahoma. Bleeding Kansas is not enough to lure Kansas and KSU and the fact that they don't bring in viewers matters. The SEC should remain a Southern conference.
