Nice copium when discussing athletic conferences.

You lose all moral high ground about “caring about academics” when you force student athletes in Los Angeles to fly to New Jersey for a volleyball match.

You’ve never been to the Florida panhandle have you?

Do you really think the average Florida state football fan gives one frick about the collective academics of a conference?

Congrats on your GPA nerd. College football fans don’t give a shite about that. It’s ironic to me that an educated big 10 man is too damn dumb to realize that

Academics are irrelevant.

I’m asking why the die hard Florida state football fan is clamoring for the big ten.

They think they’ve burned their bridges to the SEC.

The only people who care about academics are the losers of the games.

There is a near 100% correlation. It’s not causation.

University of Texas doesn’t go out there championing academics despite being the number 32 university in the country. Neither does Georgia despite being the number 47 school in the country. Neither does Florida the number 28 school

But here we have Ohio state fans (number 49) touting academics.

I live in the fricking Panhandle, sport. Nice try.

Yes, Florida State fans care about academics. I'm not talking about t-shirt fans in the trailer parks who have no input on anything.

I'm being correct.

It isn't just academics, either. In totality, the Big Ten is a better conference than the SEC.

It’s this simple. If academics mattered in conference realignment then the big ten have gone after Stanford.

Maybe FSU has made significant strides in the last 10-15 years, but back when I cared about academic rankings of Florida universities, Florida State was wayyyy behind both Florida and Miami in almost every academic category.

What are you not understanding. Their desire to leave is 100% tied to football. What the frick are you even attempting to debate

I quoted it for you...in my first fricking reply.

Big 10 is a MUCH more prestigious conference than the SEC.

MUCH? OK Pawpaw. Tell us more stories about those Hayes vs Schembechler days so young recruits will be impressed.

quote:

Michigan, OSU, USC, Penn State, and Oregon

Oregon is a new kid on the block. It would be a stretch to put them as actually mattering back to Akili Smith days.

quote:

storied programs in Washington, Nebraska, Michigan State,

Only one of those is storied. And it's looking like it may never return. Arkansas is more storied than Mich St and A&M is more storied than Washington.

The SEC just added maybe two top 5 definitely 10 programs all-time.

There was a time of about 10 years where I cared about academic rankings. While I was in school and early in my professional life. While at LSU I watched as the school went up the rankings and down the rankings. I can assure you I saw no difference in instruction as a student based on the rankings.

I entered a highly technical professional field with people educated at the highest ranked institutions. Within a very short period of time I realized that the name on their resume didn’t matter too much and I’m out-earning the vast majority with my lowly SEC education.

No, it isn't.

Show your work. The SEC runs college football. I’m asking why the FSU football fans prefer to join the #2 conference hundreds of miles away and not the #1 conference in their back yard.

There's a hell of lot more going on with conference affiliation than football, or even sports.

Again, what exactly are you arguing? The desire to move is 100% tied to the football program.

Are you arguing that the big 10 is a better football conference than the SEC?

That this...

If you misspoke, that's fine. Just say that and move on.

Do you think the Big Ten added schools like UCLA, Maryland, and Rutgers because of football?

They added them for eyeballs for negotiating TV contracts.

The TV contracts are doled out for football. Not academics.

First they need $120 million

That's just the exit fee. They can negotiate that down like Maryland did. They need a LOT more than that because of the GOR. Unless they can get 8 other ACC schools (it was 8/14 but will now be 9/17 with the new members) to dissolve it.
