There are several pages explaining why this...
...is bullshite.
Hence, the pivot.

the Big 10 is clearly the number 2 conference behind the SEC

Just to get away from ESPN. I've felt this way long before the playoff stuff
But then y'all would be locked in to playing 11 P5 games annually while most of the B10 plays 10.

In this scenario, the SEC would then expand and add Clemson, Georgia Tech, NC State and Virginia Tech...it remains to be seen if they would go after schools like Wake Forest or even a school like Louisville? But when the dust settles...we will be in the "CFP TOP 48" era...with the B1G and SEC both at 24 members. 6 division winners between the two get automatic bids to the CFP. Then 6 at large bids remain...
I agree this is the endgame.

BS. The state of Ohio worships football. Unlike Missouri where baseball is #1.
Nothing BS about. Sure they love football, but the respectable people that actually run their university would never want to abandon the research consortium they enjoy just to play football against a bunch of lowbrow academic institutions like those I listed. If you add up the endowments of the entire bottom half of the current SEC, it is the same as Ohio State, which ranks 3rd in the Big Ten. Iowa, which is like 10/14 in the Big Ten, would rank 4th in the SEC—after Texas joins.

So ESPN keeps you out of the playoffs yet rather than joining the conference they have financial interest in succeeding you want to avoid them.
Smart.
