They never said “kids can’t market themselves and get paid”. They just said you couldn’t participate as an athlete in their association if you chose to do so.

Kids were never required to play NCAA sports nor is it a right to do so.

Show me where any one of these “kids” was forced to participate in ncaa sports.

The fact that you still don’t realize you and everyone that thought, and apparently still thinks, like you are responsible for everything that has led to the tweet in the op is amusing.

Aren't most athletic departments, from a business perspective, a "private" entity, sliced away from the school? For example at UF the athletic department is the University Athletic Association. I'm honestly not sure if you can buy a stake in an athletic department or not.

I’d like to see examples of anyone saying this.

They’re not offering these terms to be generous, nor to make everyone better off. It’s simply because they think they can get a greater return on their investment and they do not care at all what happens to the program or its fans, staff, and alumni. If they are willing to use pro sports as a comparator, these greedy owners are willing to move to entire different cities (or maybe even country …. am I right Jags fans?) if they can’t bully taxpayers into buying them fancy ks unnecessary new stadiums.

How would this work in theory? They invest X up front in return for Y% of the annual revenue?

He says they COULD sell, I think he means in theory their worth. But no way this is going to happen. The brand value of the football team is tied to the university. So even if they could “sell” a stake in the football team, which I feel confident they most certainly can’t, they’d have to pay obscene licensing fees to the school for the brand if they spun it off.

This would suck. No meaningful program will let it happen. And they certainly are not worth 1 Billion dollars.

The teams are eventually going to spin off as private entities which will pay the schools licensing fees to use the branding and campus facilities.

I hate it all but still tune in every Saturday.

I would rather no sports over this

One thing about the plandemic that was actually kind of nice was that brief window of no sports in the spring of 2020 where we had to do something else.

To be fair players have been getting paid for DECADES. You think Nick Saban’s warm, friendly personality allowed him to land all those #1 recruiting classes?

The idea of college sports is rooting for athletes that also share a love of the school you attended/grew up watching.

Once it becomes NFL lite, will kill any interest I have in it

If he gets 51% of a team is he going to run it like Jerry Jones? He’s going to want a return on investment.

51% of Big Ten and SEC programs are worth a lot more than $500 to $750 million. Most are multi-billion dollar brands like NFL teams

Now what was laughable was when Howard U valued their basketball program at like $100 million

They really aren NOT. Right now they are being forced by federal law to invest their profits into womens golf. Get rid of title 9 and then maybe they are super valuable.

So General Dynamics will buy Army, Boeing will buy Navy, and Lockheed Martin will buy Air Force. With partnerships from the other big boys (RTX, Northrop Grumman, and L3Harris).
