I grew up in Tyson era but only a casual boxing fan. I’m assuming Tyson was noticeably better before prison.

Would he have knocked out Holyfield or Lewis in early rounds during his prime or were they too big and skilled?

He was a little guy that fought hand picked competition in an era of horrible heavyweights.
Put him in the 70's against the likes of Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Shavers etc Tyson would have been just another guy.

Iron Mike was a good, not great, heavyweight.

Prime Holyfield has a legitimate argument for being the best boxer all time

Ken Norton was good too.

The 70's was the goat decade of heavyweight boxing. It may never be that good again.

Prime holyfield? Barely took an old Foreman. Hit him with everything he had in one round, stood there in shock when. He realize he was not capable of knocking him out

From what I understand, Cus D'Amato would have never let Mike fight Holyfield when he did and would have made him get more fights under his belt. With Cus, Tyson was a bad dude. But without, Tyson couldn't keep his head on straight and didn't take things seriously. So, who knows?

Tyson could fight Holyfield 100 times and wouldn’t win a single one.

Holyfield beats any version of Tyson. It wouldn’t matter if you dug up Cus D’Amato to train him either.

Tyson beats both in his prime before Berwick KO loss, after that, Iron Mike was gone

Holyfield is my favorite boxer ever. Strong with knockout power but a great tactician as well. And had an iron jaw.

Mike was a great fighter, but look at who he fought in the 80’s. Not the best era of heavyweights at all.

I remember I was pissed that Tyson lost to Buster Douglas because Holyfield was up next and I knew he would win the title when he got a chance, but I wanted him to be the one who took out Tyson. Douglas was set to fight Holyfield and me and my roommate were talking and I said Holyfield would knock out Douglas in less than 5 rounds. He said, you’re crazy, that guy beat Tyson, I’ll bet you $300 bucks on it. I said, sure, cool.
The look on his face when Douglas came into the ring looking horribly out of shape was priceless. Easy money.

No one knocked out Big George in the 90s. Like hitting a giant wall. He knew it too. Wasn’t dumb enough to get rope a doped again. He got beat on points, but you weren’t putting that man down. Like getting hit with giant tree trunks.

Tyson is deep down a fraidy cat according to Teddy Atlas.

Once a fighter didn't buy into his bully persona, he was toast....Lewis was such a better boxer and Holyfield had the heart of a Lion.

Old George Foreman wanted the chance to expose Tyson and knock him repeatedly down like he did small Joe Frazier but he never got that chance.

If you were big and had length like Lewis and weren't scared, Tyson was in trouble.

The only way Tyson would beat Lewis would be a fluke. Lennox Lewis was probably the best HW of my generation. He maybe could have beat Holyfield in a series of fights. But Evander had an excellent chin and that severely limits Tysons power.

Yes, was definitely better than Evander, Lewis is tricky because he had that glass jaw but was really dominant after Emanuel Stewart.

Look what Buster Douglas did.
Big Guy with a stiff jab that wasn't afraid of Tyson.
Put Tyson in the 70's against the biggest toughest heavyweights in history and Tyson would have had a short career,
The idea of Ali, Foreman, Frazier etc being intimidated by short little Mike is laughable.

Tyson got absolutely destroyed by a specific style fighter. I’t won’t matter who trained him. He couldn’t deal with fighters who were willing to bully and put a jab on him. There’s a blueprint. A light heavyweight like Spinks isn’t the guy to expose that. You think ‘prime’ Tyson is beating a prime George Foreman? A prime Ali? We already saw how inept Tyson looked against Holyfield and Lewis. Tyson was an exciting fighter until Buster Douglas beat the shite out of him. The aura was gone after that. It was over.
