Halladay is probably a hall of famer, but he's not a slam dunk. I definitely don't think he'll be a first-ballot guy.
Guerrero is no question a hall of famer iyam. He's a career .318 hitter who was awesome legitimately every full-year of his 15-year career. I'm honestly surprised he retired so suddenly. His numbers were declining, but he could still hit, no doubt... Also 449 career homers.

Vlad's swing alone should get him in. That thing was violent.

I hate the Yankees. I hate everything about the Yankees. But if some self serving pretentious BBWA Writer leaves Mariano Rivera off his ballot to "make a point", then they can all eat a bag of dicks.

That arm too.
Vlad and Pedro were probably my two favorite non Astros players of all time. They were so fun to watch.

Oh they will, and it will be multiple writers. It happens all the time. Some voters didn't vote for Maddux, some voters voted for Aaron Boone and Armando Benitez. The voters are idiots

Don't some voters do this because they only have a certain amount of votes and for example one might want to vote for Boone (not sure why haha) but knows Maddux will get in for sure, so doesn't use his vote on Maddux but takes Boone instead.
Not sure if that made sense, but thought I read that somewhere and that is why you won't get someone with 100% vote.
But overall yes, the voters can be idiots. Bonds not being in is just one example of that.

Pettitte isn't borderline, he's not a HOF in the slightest. Dude has a career ERA of 3.85 (3.74 FIP).
Even when you factor in the league he played in at the time, he is pretty average
Here are his top 6 seasons(with at least 100IP) by ERA+ which compares you to your peers in that season (100 is league average)
177
156
135
132
129
112
Thats pitiful that he had only 5 seasons above 112.

I don't think the voters keeping Bonds out right now really labels them as idiots. I think it makes sense why they would not want o vote him in NOW. They definitely wanted to make sure to exclude him as a first ballot for good reason. He will more than likely get in during these next few years, and if he is not voted in at that point; then I would agree that it would be idiotic to keep him out.
Same goes for Rose (unless they can prove he bet on games he actually played in).

The guy who voted for Boone covered the Reds, and Boone basically encouraged the guy not to retire, and keep working. The writer had some health/vision problems and considered packing it in, but Boone told him to not quit doing what he loved and was best at.
Basically, a 'Thank you' to Boone for helping him through a tough time.

Many local beat writers will vote for the hometown guy, especially if he wasn't an arse, as a nod of respect, another great reason why there should be no restrictions on the number of players on a voters ballot.
Hal is good people.

Because none of the First Class got in with 100%. Sure, maybe it's a stupid reason. But Cobb, Ruth, Wagner, nor Matthewson got in with 100% so no one should.

Some do use their votes in this way (i.e., I know this guy is going to get in some I'm going to use my vote on another guy I really like he may be on the fringe or in danger of falling off the ballot). I don't necessarily agree with that, but I understand it.
Some guys, on the other hand, seem to feel like it is their duty to prevent any player from being a unanimous selection since there has never been a unanimous selection before. It's like they say, "well if Hank Aaron wasn't unanimous then Greg Maddux doesn't deserve to be either." They fully believe that Greg Maddux should be in the hall of fame but they want to make sure he is not unanimous because nobody has been unanimous before. It's ridiculous. It's like saying - "voters in the past were stupid and made an idiotic choice, and I must keep that tradition going today!"

I think all these guys deserve to get in. I think most of the steroid guys should be in as well, but it's pretty obvious from the voters that it isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Griffey's a no-brainer for obvious reasons.
You'd think that, but I'm patiently awaiting goldenbadger's thread asking whether or not Griffey gets in the HOF.
