Anyone else feel like the Big East programs really blew a good thing chasing the bag.

Va Tech, Rutgers, Louisville, WVU, Pitt, Syracuse, Miami, BC - all these programs used to be fairly relevant and now the most relevant of them is maybe West Virginia basketball

That’s revisionist. It was going to be Tebow or McFadden.

Louisville 44, West Virginia 34 - this rivalry bubbled up quickly. I would even say it started on the hardwood with an Elite 8 matchup from the previous season. A huge TV audience saw #5 Louisville led by Brian Brohm knock off #3 WVU led by Pat White and Steve Slaton.

A bit off on your history

That hoops game was in 2005, Lville entered the Big East the next football season. The first match up of the rivalry as conference foes was a saturday 3:30 kick off was a WVU win 46-44 in triple OT ( I was there). WVU went on to beat UGA in the sugar bowl

Next year was the thursday night match up

2003 when Quincy Wilson started running dudes over and jumping over people

only for Miami to win at the very end.

It was my freshman year, I remember seeing a dumpster set on fire rolled down fraternity row after the game

Well once VT and Miami left the rest had no choice

VT was pretty solid their first 8 years or so in the ACC, now not so much. Lville hoops in the ACC didn't miss a beat and their football has been up and down

Pitt is just trash at everything now, a school with no sports identity. The admin is ok with 5-7,6-6,7-5 football.

Cuse yea fricked it up, Miami always over hyped and BC is mehh at everything

WVU in big 12 football has been very competitive but just can't get over the hump aka beat OU to win the league. But hoops wise for sure one of the better programs.

Thursday night in Blacksburg was special. Most fun I've ever had at a sporting event was VT v. Clemson in 2006.

That was the one I was coming to post

I think Miami still won that game, but at the time they were in the midst of a LONG regular season winning streak. They had only lost 2 games in over 3 seasons at that point while WVU was 1-3.

3rd and 13, needing a TD to pull off a huge upset, and we got THAT play. I remember watching it live and Tirico going nuts (understandably)

IIRC, Kellen Winslow Jr made an ungodly catch on 4th down to keep Miami's last ditch drive alive.

L’Ville won the national title in basketball and the Sugar Bowl in football their last Big East season. They have definitely dropped off.

Miami won double digit games their last 4 seasons in the Big East. They’ve won ten games only once since leaving.

No doubt here. Their basketball program has fallen off the map.

WVU won 9+ games in football their last seven years in the Big East. They’ve done that once since leaving.

All these programs have learned it was better to be a big fish in a small pond. Virginia Tech is the only one I’d say is better off.

Well moving to a conference were 3/4 of the teams had more talent the first few years will do that and still getting to bowl games.

Even winning 10 games, should have been 10 the other year but Grier opted out the bowl game

Now WVU has a coach that actually puts effort into recruiting HS kids, the program is gonna make some noise soon under Neal Brown.

Their issues have more to do with being a school hiring scum bags not switching conferences bc ACC football isn’t great outside of Clemson.
