I am, I love boxing going all the way back to the Ali days. I wish they would have more of these top, great fights like the 1 that just happened with Crawford-Spence Jr. I mean look how much interest and money that fight generated, just crazy how many people were into that fight from the big stars to the little stars. I guarantee Las Vegas made a killing with the action going on, yes, they have to make more of these big name fights happen, please.

I saw the fight only had 700k ppv buys. I guess that is a respectable amount but I would have thought it would have been higher based on people talking like this was a once in a lifetime event or something. I also read that was the most for a boxing ppv since mayweather pacquio.

Gonna be interesting to see what the payl vs diaz event pulls ppv wise.

Ufc doesnt release official numbers but supposedly jones vs gane did almost 1 million ppv buys.

My personal interest ranking:

1) Original UFCs (when they were only 1 or 2 per year and old school, barely no rules)
2) Pride Fighting (japan, now absorbed by UFC)
3) Tyson fights
4) Modern UFC

That is about it.

Just like we did in the 1980s?

You are insane.

Boxing died out because there haven’t been any great American fighters since I don’t know..Holyfield, Tyson, Roy Jones Jr? I guess maywether. But I think it would take a great American heavyweight to bring back boxing.

This could happen to ufc if foreign guys start to dominate the sport.

Foreign fighters dominate the ufc. Only 2 champs are from the US.

Who's the top UFC fighter right now?? I used to follow when Jon Jones was popular, but I heard he's trying to switch over to boxing. Is that true??

Poirier is also a Louisiana kid and this board obviously has a lot of posters with connections (alum, fan, etc.) to the state

Poirier is well respected amongst the fans and fighters in the mma world. One of the best to ever do it.

One of the issues that helped kill boxing (and there are many) is the feminizing of the Olympics. When I was a kid, boxing was one of the main sports covered during the Olympics. So we all knew who Sugar Ray Leonard was. We had been exposed to the Spinks brothers prior to them going pro. Roy Jones was a familiar talent to sports fans before he entered the pro ranks. The Olympics was a boxing minor league and marketing campaign all rolled into one.

Once NBC figured out women would flock in droves to the TV sets to watch all the drama-filled and "artistic" events like gymnastics, rhythmic dancing, diving, etc. it was goodbye, boxing. There aren't a dozen average sports fans who could tell you the last American to win a gold medal in boxing.

The Crawford/Spence fight was great for boxing, but just makes me a little sad how stagnant the popularity of boxing ha become.

To be fair, it made $21 million at the gate.. which is top 10 all time. So the demand is still there.

Poirier is a good fighter, but he’s far from one of the best to ever do it. He’s not even one of the best lightweights to ever do it.

I’m a fan of the UFC and mma in general. I watch nearly every event.

I’m a bigger boxing fan and hate what it has become.

The differences are one is ran by one company and the other is ran by a bunch of crooks and criminals

Head to head live events, a big boxing match will always be a bigger show in live audience and as far as ppv, boxing with the right stars will always outperform the ufc also in the bigger matches.

Spence and Crawford was a great show and live gate but they did shite to promote the fight.

A true heavyweight championship in boxing is rarely unmatched and the biggest boxing matches will always have an audience

Boxing just has a broader fan base and appeals to more overall people when the big names get together.

I miss Sugar Ray, Ray Mancini, Hitman Thomas Hearns, and Roberto Duran. That’s when a fight was a fight.

One time in the seventies my dad went to a theatre and paid fifty bucks to watch Muhammed Ali vs some tomato can they were hyping as a legitimate contender. The fight lasted about 30 seconds and that's the last time he paid attention to boxing.

A KO in the first 5 secs isn’t that entertaining in either sport imo.
