I'm from Baltimore and if they submitted a bid they'd get laughed out of the conference room.

Not sure what you mean by "supporting" the Olympics, I might watch certain events I guess

If you want to hold a few events in Baton Rouge, Kip would get that light rail he's always wanted.

Assuming you have the ability to host outside of NOLA, you could improve the existing sites. That would cut some costs and ensure future use.

Lsu track facility. I realize you would have to add a ton of seating.

Could you turn the cajun dome or the river center into a swimming venue?

It cost a shite ton, but they still made a profit. Not a huge one, but a profit none the less.

Don't do it. It's changed Atlanta. In some ways better and in some ways worse.

I LOVE the Olympics. I'm stuck to the TV during those 2 weeks. It's all about pride for the athletes, not $.

Way more than just a ton of seats. I'm not sure Bernie Moore even has multiple bathrooms. Tad Gormley would probably be more feasible but both are a million miles away from what would be acceptable.

An Olympic level one? No.

I love the olympics, but don't want it anywhere near my home state.

The Olympics have proven to be an absolutely terrible investment, nearly on a level of Enron circa 2000. I would be beyond pissed if Louisiana bid on it.

Yes, in fact i would love for Columbus to bid. The USOC asked Columbus to bid for the 2024 games. Columbus has essentially all the infrastructure needed (minus a few) to bid. The city could partner with The Ohio State University to hold the games. Plenty of brand new state of the art living conditions for the athletes and great facilites. I think Columbus would have a darkhorse chance to host. The only thing Columbus would need between now and then would be more hotels, which Columbus is currently addressing.

Mostly worse because of the influx of people.

I'm sure you are kidding because it would take a month just to host a Rolling Stones concert.

Didn't that investment help revitalize the downtown area? I wasn't in ATL before and have been gone for many years, but I never got the impression that people thought it was wasted money. In addition to downtown revitalization, doesn't Georgia State use the housing facilities they built for the athletes? Maybe the price of the bribes has escalated to make it not worth it, but imagine what New Orleans could do if it decided to spend $1 billion remodelling/updating/gentrifying. Seems like in the long run it could be money well spent with it being a tourist city. I'm sure the city could easily piss away that much money over time on things that don't benefit the city as much.
