The average college prospect that actually makes the majors is likely doing both of these. Less than 3 years in the minors is an outlier regardless of which pool of players you were drafted from (HS or college).

Holy shite.

If true, then they called him up because they agreed on the deal and wanted to get it signed and keep the promotion incentive pick.

Of all the times over the last century the pirates have pussy footed around, signing 140 million over to someone without an MLB at bat is an interesting time to get froggy . Could pay off, time will tell

Sure he can buy lots of fancy things with his preshious millions the mlb is giving him, but he can never buy back the college experience he missed out on. Im sure when skenes gets ahold of him he will make him wish he would have went to lsu first and then the mlb would still be there. Money isnt everything young pup!

He married his HS sweetheart. Said to be a really solid, mature young man.

Now if they could just admit that the whole “O’Neill Cruz to CF” experiment was a failure.

Guess you haven't watched any Pirates games this season

Seems dumb. Judging by his K to BB ratio last year at Class A, I think he struggles big time. He will get exposed like Jackson Holliday did.

If you are a small market team like the Pirates you should be trying to optimize the cost controlled years of talent. 23 to 29 optimal. Starting a clock at 19 like for what?

To keep the best position player prospect since Harper under team control for 9 years and get the promotion incentive.

The alternatives are:

1. They call him up in a couple years and then fight arb until someone says they'll pay him and they lose him at 24 and never get his prime.

2. He flounders or gets hurt and the pick is wasted.

3. He performs and, for the first time ever, the Pirates pay a player premium money as he enters his prime.

I think just paying a prospect like Griffin $15mm AAV for 9 years is the best idea. If a window exists for this itteration of the Pirates, best case scenario. it'll open in about 2 years and close 2 years after that. Might as well make the most of it.

yeah I’m sure the number 1 prospect in baseball and current big leaguer really struggled finding some strange.

He just signed a 9 year $140 million contract. I'm sure he'll have enough fun with that money that he won't have missed much.
