What’s your view on tennis? Why does tennis always get the spoiled country club reputation, but not golf? It is a pretty intense sport that requires more athletic ability than golf and good hand-eye coordination as well. It’s obviously never going to compete with the main 3 sports, but seems like it’s just viewed as a less athletic sport. Seems like guys would like it more than they do because you get to hit the shite out of the ball. Maybe because it isn’t a team sport??

That’s like comparing bowling to 100M sprints.

People who think this don't watch it.

And golf gets plenty of the spoiled country club reputation.

Doesn't help that you can't play tennis by yourself. I mean you can, but hitting a ball against a wall isn't really appealing. It's basically an individual sport that you can't play alone. Golf you can go out on the course or the range solo no problem.

The person you are referring to definitely didn’t play at Country Clubs growing up, so her going off has no correlation.

Tennis gets the reputation it has, because most average people don’t play tennis, and they just assume that it’s played by unathletic rich people

Right, but they aren't individual sports. Tennis is unique in the sense that it's an individual sport but you need someone else to really play.

Well I guess you CAN be fat and unathletic and play tennis. But you'll just suck at it.

I have the complete opposite perception and played both competitively growing up. Most junior tennis tournaments were full of working class and immigrant families.

I don't know one, single person (sports enthusiast or not) who has this perception.

Tennis and soccer athletes (pros) are the most fit on the planet.

Tennis was kinda the sport you played if you weren’t good at any of the other sports and wanted to play something. tennis team was usually guys who were third/fourth string guys on the football team, guys from the band, etc.

I was a starter on the football team and couldn't crack the lineup in tennis

Probably had something to do with me being an offensive lineman and us having a very dominant tennis team though

Honestly it's a great sport for footwork.

I played football, basketball, and tennis in high school, and can honestly say I was never as drained mentally or physically as after a 3.5 hour tennis doubles match. A tennis match against a decent player, is one of the most mentally straining sports.
