Oh this will get interesting.
Think people are pissed off now? Comparing a guy who said “Stand with Hong Kong” to a noted racist with a long history of problems overlooked by the league isn’t going to sit well with the American public.
China may be posturing for their own market but I think they are about to bite off more than they can chew.

This whole thing is hilarious as an American watching the NBA squirm but equally disturbing to see real time tyranny at work

It’s likely just going to end with the NBA not being shown there and I doubt the government gives a frick about that

Whenever I see this name I think of the guy that keeps getting a soccer ball kicked in his face.

Morey holds the upper hand here. He won't get fired, and the alternative is for them to convince him to resign AND apologize; but if he strongly believes what he tweeted he should just hold firm

They may eventually if it means stronger NBA ties with geopolitical opponents like India and Taipei.
Who is to say the NBA doesn’t broadcast from Taipei into Red China? Possibly on the same channels that Taipei would use to dissiminate information about Tianamen Square, Falun Gong, or other verboten topics?

One thing that is great about the Chinese:
They know who to get a certain, vocal, group of Americans on their side to do their bidding.

I really don’t see the NBA that just tried to walk the middle ground going that route

This entire thing is fascinating.
Firstly, China/communism can EAD.
Secondly, Morey's tweet cost Houston/NBA an enormous amount of money. I'm not sure I've ever seen a single tweet be that costly.
Thirdly, the VAST majority of people commenting have no clue what's going on in Hong Kong.

The issue is that China has a history of having it their way or saying “frick you, get out.”
The NBA can’t really do China’s bidding without permanently damaging its core market, so I figure that China tells them to get the frick out.
At that point, pushing that India partnership and working with Taipei seems like a lot better option than getting back into China anytime soon because China will only let them in if it is clear they won’t lose face over it. And China could only pull that off it the NBA is seen as firing Morey and curtailing the speech of execs and players, which is a nonstarter in the US.

I want Chinese basketball legend Marbury’s take on this. “Data is bread”

Do you have some $4B+ tweets that I'm forgetting?
