Care to explain why most Boston fans (assuming you are in your 20s or 30s) care the least about their historically best franchise? Just curious
I'll give this one a try. Russell was kind of a dick and Boston was going through a sort of change, and to be quite honest, was still a little bit racist (as most cities were) in the 60s and 70s. When most players would understand it wasn't the city, it was some dumbasses who didn't know their arse from a hole in the ground, Russell just didn't get it. It lead to some very tense moments with the fan base. He also was not very good with the press. The Bruins were cherished because of Bobby Orr, who was also around during the 70s and the 60s. He was a fan favorite, and easily was one of the most fan friendly stars of that era. Yaz was also big during that time period, and he also overshadowed Russell.

I grew up playing hockey in the mid/late 80's just outside of Boston, and frequently took the train to the garden to see the Bruins. I never really played basketball because i liked hitting people and couldn't jump over a soda can to save my life.

When I was younger, we used the Twins cap for our baseball team. They have been my team ever since.

Sad thing is, Len Bias could have changed everything in the Boston sports scene right now.

i think you should root for the cubs if that's who your fam is for.. or root for the team closest to you.
the redsox have so many fans now it just makes me sick.. call it hating.. i'm sure.. they do currently have the best hitting lineup in baseball.
if i was to just recommend one team.. i would suggest the giants. such great young pitching.. and they have some of the best baseball fans. they are involved in what seems like a 1 run game every single night.. pus brian wilson is the closer!

I was the dumbass kid who fell in love with the Cubs because of WGN. Similar to how the Saints fricked my childhood up. Never win, but always toy with you.

Was a big Micah Owings fan after he brought Tulane to the CWS. Watched his 1st few big league starts and sooner or later I was watching every D'Backs game on their way to the NLCS. I have continued to support them ever since.
Just an easy team to pull for. Before 07 I was a Yankees guy. Still cheer for them it's just D'Backs are number one for me.

My uncle was a scout for the Astros. Heard a lot of his stories.

My dad grew up in KC and I spent summers there, so I latched onto the Royals and Chiefs. Never been accused of being a bandwagoneer.

well as a kid and loving baseball and getting the chance to watch it nearly everyday on tv, it was either the Cubs on WGN or the Braves on TBS....I went with the Braves obviously

Superstation WTBS made me a Braves fan as a kid growing up (only team I could watch in Southwest LA on a consistent basis). Back in the "good ole days" when they never won, but used to love Murphy, Horner, Hubbard, Rafael Ramirez, Bruce Sutter, etc.

Growing up in NOLA, I was actually more of a Cubs fan, but once we moved to Atlanta, and I actually got to go to Braves games, I then switched my allegiance to the Braves.

Mom's side of family from Marietta, GA. Grew up in LA but used to go visit a lot as a kid and went to tons of Braves games. Was able to follow closely on TBS at home so naturally the team stuck.

Taken to my first Toronto Blue Jays game in 1977 as a little boy of 6, Exhibition Stadium right on the lake.

Dad use to drive me up to Bahston every weekend from Louisiana and we would watch the games.
Not really. I have no favorite being that LA has no team, but I like the Mariners and Cubs.

Cubs; I blame WGN and that handsome Mark Grace.

Braves were my fave, because dad watched them and I played on a few Braves teams growing up.
Went to a few Astros games due to proximity, but I lost all interest in baseball in the early part of this decade.
Picked it back up, and for the past few years I find myself liking players instead of a particular team. Fantasy probably has something to do with that. I want to have a rooting interest in a team, though, so I'm considering going back to being a Braves fan and saying screw fantasy.

Grew up outside of Philly, suffered forever and now we have the best team in baseball. I just hope they can keep up their winning ways for a long time.

Same here. Of course as a kid I didn't know any better & the Cubs 89 playoff run had me hooked. The Hawk is still my all-time favorite player. The Braves worst-to-first got my attention & I never looked back.
