This is not the NCAAs jurisdiction. This sets a scary precedent for the future of college athletics when the governing body can make rulings based on criminal cases.

All these lynchtards are going to be pissed soon. The NCAA is overstepping it's own rules(Not shocking, just like governments) to punish for criminal behavior. This opens the door for the NCAA to levy punishments upon players and coaches outside of NCAA rules. How many of you would be pissed if TM was suspended for the rest of the year or this year for synthetic pot last year?
For all practical purposes, do you really think the NCAA can sit here and give out 0 sanctions? The lack of instiutional control was mind-boggling in this case. Well, actually, the instiution of Penn State had COMPLETE control, and used it to cover up the biggest scandal in sports history. And as far as the players, I'd be willing to bet the NCAA lets them transfer without penalty.

So what makes this different from the Goddell NFL, ross?

So basically everyone that is against punishment being placed on PSU feels that the program is protected from punishment because the events were mutually exclusive? Well i couldn't disagree more. The players can always go play at other schools, the coaches can all go find other jobs and the students can get quality educations else where. Just because all of these people are going to be punished as well in the process, doesn't mean that nothing should be done. The fact is is that the wanted to protect football at all cost. Well a harsh punishment is the cost that they should have to pay. He raped boys! They covered it up! Case closed! Death to PSU football.

If entire school is responsible, what does this say about our educational institutions in general? I put it to you that this is an indictment of our entire American society! I'm not going to sit here and let Mark Emmert badmouth the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
This jokes gonna kill...I.accept your lols and love them.

Worse...deciding immoral/moral behavior outside of actual infractions.

well, the NCAA is not like the commissioner of a pro sports league that can hand out punishment for any reason; it is a voluntary organization that operates based on an internal code of laws. as far as i cant tell, the NCAA isn't even following its own version of due process, where it conducts an investigation and penalties are decided upon by a committee.

No I'm not the NCAA is punishing PSU for behavior that the NCAA doesn't cover. That's why it's unprecedented. Emmert is now the Football Commissioner of the NCAA.

I still say the sanctions are bullshite. Yeah, something needs to be done.
But this issue wasn't to gain a competitive advantage on the field. I still am not sure what the solution should be, but hindering the programs future progress simply doesn't allow them to move on.
Think of how many years after SMU people still had that subject brought up. The same will happen here. rather than allow PSU, and everyone involved to move on, clusure will not be brought to the situation.

Lack of instiutional control. There was no hint of independent oversight or balance anywhere within the Penn State atheletic department.
Posted on 7/22/12 at 11:22 am to TexasTiger08
The coverup was to MAINTAIN a competitive advantage on the field

just the general culture around the program and the fact that trustees, the president, and the coach facilitated child rape tells me that Penn State doesn't even NEED a football program right now. I think the death penalty is certainly appropriate.
