I heard the Texas o-line gets $50k/year each in NIL deals.
So basically an 17/18 year old with only athletic ability, gets a free education from a prestigious university, free place to stay, free food, free books, etc. to play a sport AND make more money than a Police officer, firefighter, emt, nurse and majority of people with the average college degree?
What an arse backwards world we live in.

the issue is what scholarships don't cover that poor kids need to get by...
How many LSU players do you know of that had to quit the team because they were lacking necessities

Although I like this idea, it’s too late. You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Bet you support socialism too huh.
No. You have a pool where anyone who contributes dips into it and the highest performers get the most out of the pool as they deserve. Superstars get superstar NIL money. Simple.

Again I repeat, what you think is “reasonable”’is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is what the competition will pay for that player.
I am not saying you have to like or agree with it.
We have pro sports for your argument....
This is the NCAA...
A job is different than "hey that's the guy who plays QB for Alabama"
Its all connected to the Helmet...
That's a conflict because there is no contract nor is the player an agent or an employee of the university...but is 100% benefitting...
Shouldn't players or businesses benefitting pay royalty fees to the university...?

None
But I've heard the noise for 40 years

30 grand for each scholarship player would be 2.5 million dollars!
Woodward just cobbled together 10 times that to change this coaching staff over.

71/day with your room, board and medical all covered like you are royalty too.
How about throwing in a Benz with insurance and maintenance covered. Saban owns a dealership. Just put 85 red MBs in the parking lot.

Like it. Do it like fantasy football and the top point winners get paid big $ for that week.

Sooo.... socialism?
For context, in 2019 Raydar Jones, who saw no field time, would have made as much as Joe Burrow, Jefferson, Chase, Moss and Edwards-Helaire.
Pass.

Look, college football is a business and that's how business works. I get it. But at some point we need to back up and preserve some semblance of competition. If it gets any more top heavy it will start losing viewership, and ultimately...revenue.
If the NFL was a free for all the Cowboys would win every super bowl.
Eta - you could cap players to where they can still make a lot of money, while keeping it under control. A base salary for just being on scholly. Different cap for each experience level, starter bonus, cap performance incentives I.e tds, tackles, ints etc. Award bonuses etc...
It would still be up to the University to come up with the money to pay those (and they don't HAVE to pay it), but at least there would be a backstop.

They won’t be paying for their necessities with the money. No one believes that I don’t think. Family members, etc with their fingers in the pie, etc? How many of these kids have the background, education and maturity to have that $30,000 spaced out properly to take care of essential needs over the course of the year?

What I am waiting to see is that these teams that are dumping cash on these kids are about to get into a whole nother world of problems... 18 yrs old kids with 6 figure incomes.
Hookers and blow
impossible attitudes
numerous distractions outside of football
schedule conflicts for NIL contracts
toxic family members
and the most important... internal jealousy.

The NCAA opened up a can of worms that will be hard to close....
I think it was a mistake, but who cares what I think.
