Dude if your high school son wanted patches to add pieces of flair to his jacket I’m sure he’s capable of figuring it out

Patches for Letterman jackets?

People still wear these? My parents offered to buy me one, but they were frowned upon by the popular kids in the class so I didn't get one. This was 20+ years ago.

I can't figure out if this is a "My kid's a great athlete" or a "I have enough money to send my kid to a small private school, where he's nearly guaranteed lots of patches" brag.

I kid. When I was in high school in the 70'a, we ordered All-District patches thru a store in town. When they came in, you left your jacket with them and they'd call when they had the patches on it. I was thinking they gave us a letter with the slashes on it every year we lettered. Back then there was only one all-district and one all-state team. No second team. Pretty sure they did have a few hnerable mentions, but I don't even think it was enough to make up what would kind of be a second team.

My brag for the thread:
I earned a maroon and white jacket from one school as a freshman, moved to a different state and earned a black and orange one.

We always got patches for district championships, making it to certain parts of the playoffs, and state championships. For individual awards, we got patches if we made all district, regional teams, and all state.

For the first year lettering in a sport, we got a very small patch indicating the sport we lettered in that was to go on the big school emblem. Every year after, we got a bar to add to each small patch.

I graduated HS many moons ago, but we had 3 girls on our CC and track team that had so many individual awards and championships that they had patches filling both sleeves, along with the front and back of their jackets. and back. Sadly I only managed a few district championships, and a state runner up.

I wonder which Louisiana athlete has the most decorated letterman’s jacket during the past 20 years ?

I’m talking most All-state / all district in multiple sports…etc.

You don't talk to your own coach?

When and where would that happen?

Boosters buy the championship patches, the AD has the bars and sports patches, I can order a first team all state patch through the school…$25-30.

I have to assume that boosters funded the purchase of the patches, but when I was in school, you ONLY got those things from your coach at the end of the season. If you can go out and buy them on your own, what's the point?
