If this is true I'd assume that means they're using the major bowls. But then you'd have 2 more bowls the next week for the semis? Quarters need to be on campus...

God these people running CF is retarded. 8 is what it should be. 5 power 5 conference champions and 3 at large. So F#$kin SIMPLE

They’re not retarded. They’re looking out for their self interest. One of the problems of CFB and one of the things that makes it unique is that it’s not a unified league.

Why would the SEC agree to your format? They get
maybe one at-large in just to throw a bone to the PAC12. Your format also has the issue of punishing certain teams for making the conference title game like ‘17 Auburn.

They won't call the semis bowls, just call the semis similar to the final now.

But I agree. 1st and 2nd round should be on campus.

Truncate or even remove out of conference games. Play a round robin if possible, no conference title games.

As an independent, Notre Dame would not be eligible for a first-round bye. Irish would have to survive four playoff games to win a national championship.

Do not like. I liked there being independents in college football. It's a constant wild card. Notre Dame's rivals are almost all outside of the ACC. That was the worst conference for them to join. They'll almost never get to play anybody but Navy and maybe USC now.

So I guess they get to say "frick You" to the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl now?

Or do they slide down and only get quarter final treatment rather than Semi-Final treatment?

you're removing the "100s" and replacing them with a few 5s (like that game). there will never be enough 5s to make up for the loss of the 100s

You're ignoring seasons like this past one for LSU, where their games were relatively meaningless after the first game, and definitely after game 3

You're just looking at this from the perspective of a team who is often times undefeated going into week 5 or 6 or whatever, but what if you lose an early game and your season is basically over from then on? Don't those games after the early loss mean less in the current system, than they would in the proposed system?

How many games would a team like Bama or OSU have to lose in order to miss this expanded playoff? 4?

i.e., Notre Dame, join a conference.

Some years you would get only 2 loss at large teams, other years you'd have some 3 loss teams.

Even with 3 losses I think those two teams I listed would be a lock. 4 losses I think the door would be open for them as well.

You can always just argue “clearly they are the more talented team” vs any one vying for those 5-8 spots.

I think assuming this happens is flawed. The entire history of the BCS we never saw a repeat title game. The playoff had one by its third year.

There were never 2 teams dominating the way Clemson and Alabama did during those 4 years they won 4 championships.

God it's like yall point out the problems with college football and just say "iTs uNiqUe", no it isn't unique it's just dumb. If the Irish want to play with the big boys man up and join a conference

OOC games are essentially worthless in this format aside from tiebreakers for divisions and differentiators for at large teams.

We'll see.

This could create more of these matchups because a loss in one of those games isn't season ending any more. But it might also not be worth it to play tough games out of conference if you're guaranteed a title shot and bye (4 of the 5 get one) from winning your conference.

Why? They have a harder schedule playing not in a conference. And get to play a diverse set of teams. Why is Notre Dame in the ACC unequivocally better than not being in the ACC and doing what they do now?

Of course and the arguments will be even better because a lot of seasons those last couple of teams in will have some real ugly on their resume.

I wrote about this back in 2006, so I forget the exact terms I used, but it can be summarized as a resume. With each slot down, the teams with similar resumes grows. That means the path is exponential, so the more entitlements given, you expand the "teams with arguments" exponentially.

Again, MM had SIXTY FOUR teams and still felt they needed to expand
