The word on the street is that Josh McDaniels is open to potential head coach opportunities. And there's a chance his dream job may open up soon.

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat after Thursday night's loss to the Seattle Seahawks, which dropped his club to 4-5-1. If the Packers miss the playoffs, there's a very real chance McCarthy loses his job -- which is where McDaniels comes in.

During an appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Toucher & Rich" on Friday, the MMQB's Albert Breer laid out why the New England Patriots' offensive coordinator could be on Green Bay's shortlist of potential McCarthy replacements.

"Two years ago, Josh McDaniels was in the (San Francisco 49ers') coaching search until the very end," Breer said. "And one of the things the Niners were looking at was pairing different people together. When Josh McDaniels was in the running for that Niners job ... the guy who at the time had emerged as the front-runner for the general manager job ... and who had blown the Niners away was a Packers personnel man named Brian Gutekunst, who now is the (Packers') general manager. So, they've done their homework on each other."

The worst part of the NFL is all the retread coaches they hire. They need to bring in some fresh coaches. Josh McDaniels is not a very good head coach.

Exactly. The Pats were idiots for giving Belichick another shot

Yea people don’t learn or gain experience over time. If you weren’t a great coach your first go you can NEVER be a good coach. Oh and the situation and things that may have been outta your control don’t matter either. You didn’t win big, You are a loser and not a good coach.

I think McDaniels could be a good hire. Former Belichick disciples usually don't fare well as head coaches in the NFL, but they usually are hired on by dumpster fire organizations like the Dolphins, Jets, Lions, etc. GB is a playoff team with the right HC

i didn't get a chance to read the board last night, but was i the only one who thought it seemed like the Packers just waived a white flag by not going for it on 4th and 2 with 4 minutes left and down 3? i know the field position wasn't great and the atmosphere didn't favor the Packers. but you have a supposed HOF QB and if you lose you are likely on the verge of being mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

i roll the dice there personally.

in hindsight giving a 30 year old first time HC full organizational control was probably not the best idea

he had some other solid picks

Having been to GB, I can tell you it takes a special player and coach to want to live and work there.

Great little town nice people.

But man i wouldn’t want to live there.

Not a lot to do and brutally brutally cold.

Hard pass

Yeah, I'm sure the Patriots regret hiring former Browns coach Bill Belichick.

McDaniels would have that offense playing on another fricking level with Aaron Rodgers.

Not sure he's mature enough to manage an entire team though.

No, he’s definitely an awful HC.

Let’s remember, he also tried to trade for Matt Cassell when Denver had a young Jay Cutler.

Josh McDaniels first go-around as head coach wasn't very good, but you could argue that he set the Broncos up for the success that they would see in the five years after.

If he hadn't gotten rid of guys like Cutler and Marshall, they would have been stuck in mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

It is really tough to say that, because he was such a horrible GM. Where ever he ends up, they won't give he control of play personnel

I thought that too. I mean 4 minutes is a little early to be going for it in your own territory but anybody watching that game could tell that GB wasn't going to stop Seattle from running out the clock. They had the 3rd & 2 play but Rodgers shanked the pass. They could have converted the 4th and 2 and if they didn't, they were going to lose anyway, which they did.

Josh McDaniels is hardly a retread. He's more like the snow tires you bought and used one winter before moving to Florida.

Guy was a head coach for less than two seasons almost 10 years ago.

Baw, he got rid of Jay Cutler for the epitome of mediocrity...Kyle Orton. And drafted Tim Tebow in the 1st round. Brandon Marshall was playing at a Pro Bowl level.

He did help out with drafting Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, though. And he also helped out by drafting a shite QB which lead to Peyton Manning signing. Knowshon Moreno was mediocre and David Bruton was a great ST player, but that’s it.
