Except postgame in that interview he was asked if he was out of it or what effects he was feeling from that hit and just said nah just some neck and shoulder pain. Then they asked again about his head/concussion and he said no.

your little clip left out that the player was similarly hit and the ref ignored it. the first hit was 4 seconds before the "dirty" hit.
Then maybe Wideman should stop being a little bitch and lay the wood to the guy that hit him. Better yet, take off the gloves and go fight him

And Widemans suspension for the rest of the season will be his wake up call
good points.
but I myself have become crazed during football, and also had a life and death fight over hockey.
I would do the same thing. I would run over the guy too.
I do not claim to have had any restraint during football and zero during hockey. Dude hit me from behind while I was at the boards getting the puck off the board and I gave him my stick in the throat. Immediate.
We are at it at center ice.

If it was unintentional he wouldn't have continued into his box without even looking at the ref.
Amazing how, besides the morning after it happened, I haven't heard anything about this (though I haven't gone looking for more stories on it). But two high school football players take out a referee and it is national news and being discussed on the morning talk shows like GMA days and weeks after it happened. Danny Kannel's proclamation that there is a #WarOnFootball going on in the media is definitely not wrong.

I asked a couple of pages back and no one has taken a stab at answering that post or just in this entire thread in general, what was his motive for hitting the ref intentionally? I haven't read an article, nothing on Twitter, I just haven't seen anything that would talk about why he would be upset with the ref. Maybe I missed it, I'll admit, i just haven't seen it.

Sounds like you were a player who cost his team with undisciplined play.

If he was concussed that bad the NHL has a way worse shitstorm on their hands. Allowing a guy so concussed he can't even see colors to continue and play the rest of the game would be a real bad look.
Face it. The guy got pissed and made a terrible split second decision

probaly pissed off...just like the osu beaver player intentionally tripped a ref. hits happen against players and sometimes refs in hockey, however not intentional, players always check to make sure the refs are ok

Finally watched that...
The hit is pure battery...a physical attack outside of the bounds of the game...he skates into the ref - lunges forward and cross-checks him...
It reminds me of that boxing match where the guy decked his victor when he came to give him a hug...and that thug thought he was protected by being inside a ring and it was a "sport" - nope it was pure assualt and battery...and the boxer was arrested.
And this hockey player should have been arrested after the game by the police. Depending on the jurisdiction, the player wouldn't be charged with assault because the refs back was turned...but he would definitely be charged with battery.
Hockey is a fighting game but nothing protects him from what he did...that was a pure attack and is no different because it was on the ice or outside the stadium after the game.

Hope that was worth a half a mil just to deck a ref.

Not enough as far as I'm concerned. There's about 32 games left in the season...you're seriously just going to suspend him 20 and let him come back for the last few?

frankly, should be more than the minimum.
With this precedent, What kind of incident would it take to get 30-40, for instance?
