Isn't this the point of an OV anyway? Recruits don't pay a dime right? So they get flights, hotel, tickets, food, team swag all paid for, which probably comes out to around $5k?

They are charging you to hire the peeps that have to read and fact check your paperwork and make the decisions.

You’re not understanding this from the recruits’ point of view

frick their point of view. They are getting a free trip to visit the school. No one is making them go. No high school athlete's time is worth $5k on top of a paid for trip. Get out of here with that bullshite

Imagine the word getting around 4 and 5 star players (because they talk and there’s only so many) that you’re not paying up for them to come

Imagine being stuck with 3 stars because it’s known you won’t “play ball”… boosters ain’t gonna like that

What’s going on? The thread title seems to say it and now we’re just discussing the “why”

We're going to need some examples of this.

Nico Iamaleava is making $175k a month.

You can end that practice pretty quick. Get schools on board to refuse those requests.

I believe that’s called collusion.

I've started noticing some high school kids putting "Professional Athlete" on their twitter/X profile.

Is this legal?

What does this have to do with nil?

this is what i'm wondering.

I guess they have to find a booster willing to pay 5k for the visit via NIL appearance

Too cheap, I would need a whole lot more to hold my nose for a visit.

The billion dollar endowments can’t cover that?

My point is that it’s rich that a school official is complaining about the costs of pursuing a football recruit (who probably comes from little) while his school nickels and dimes the kids/families who want to go there despite being one of the richest institutions in the history of the world.

If it’s not worth it, the schools/boosters/whatever are free to not pay it. No one is making them recruit that kid.

The only way to get a handle on this is to get these absolutely insane coaches’ salaries under control. I don’t care how much value they bring to their respective schools, a football coach should NOT be a state’s highest paid government employee. The state legislatures need to start passing legislation limiting the amount of money government employees earn. Maybe then we can start getting big college football under control from a monetary standpoint.

So predictable now that the barn door is open on NIL.

It’s almost better to be someone like a North Texas and just get kids who aren’t highly recruited and appreciate the chance to play football somewhere. With low program expectations.

I am pro nil. And that’s not nil. Just like collectives aren’t nil.
I would think about 75% of the money being handed out isn’t true NIL. It’s just a way to get players paid.

I find it hard to believe raising canes is selling anymore chicken than they were before they started handing out money. Also Gordon isn’t getting more clients because he is paying LSU players.
