Love the Penner trade but the defense is still the glaring issue.

Sure. Klesla is a 4D, if they want to promote him. He's nothing special, but he could handle the role. Really, they need Orlov to grow up and take the mantle. That gives you a top 6 of Alzner, Carlson, Green, Orlov, Klesla, and Hillen. That should be doable if the offense keeps putting up points (you ain't the Kings, but that's not an embarrassing corps either).

The CBJ is playing well and this was a smart move IMO. Gaborik wasn't a vitale piece to make our offense go, we play a much scrappier offense that didn't really gel with Gaborik's style.
We get a young defenseman and some picks. The CBJ needs to stop trying to bring in high-profile guys (Carter, Gaborik, etc.) and then ship them out when they don't pan out/aren't happy. From what I've read, Gaborik was happy in Cbus bur most likely wasn't going to re-sign and was an UFA after the year.
If someone wants to sign here that is a big name, then so be it. But don't force it.
CBJ was already the youngest team in the NHL, and just got younger. We just need our talent to grow and we will have something (we've been saying that for 8 years now though

Pens get Marcel Goc and possibly Stempniak from Calgary.

Sounds like the price tag for Kesler was pretty steep.
Rumors were a top 9 25 and under center, tier 1 prospect, and a 1st and 2nd round pick.

When Stamkos returns, Tampa is probably the best team in the Atlantic.

It sounds like they had a deal in place and ownership backed out late.
