Idk, 3 straight WCFs. Gonna be hard to fire someone after that. But I also don’t think he’s getting you over the hump either. His teams have been completely outclassed by the Oilers two straight years.

Regardless, I think they need to get a lot more talented.

Classic ESPN. great hockey playoff game and they go straight to the fricken NBA.

Im sure they'll cover the NFL next. Then a small blurb on hockey.

I think Oilers get revenge in 7. As impressive as Florida looks, the Oilers have been even more dominant this playoffs and the revenge angle will be a factor. They also get game 7 in Edmonton this year.

This is sad. But not surprising. I'm glad TNT has the Stanley Cup Finals this year.

It’s an interesting question. Were the Stars problems this series more of a philosophical approach or was it just the batch of guys that you have?

Clearly the Stars weren’t physical enough and settled for being pushed out wide for the majority of the series. When they decided to roll up their sleeves and play physically, they had some success. Was that a Pete thing? Was it just a lack of blue collar, husky type guys that’ll get in there and get grimy? Was it both?

Dallas clearly has a ton of offensive talent but it was effectively neutralized by a more physical Edmonton team and the Stars just didn’t have a counter punch. Look at how often Edmonton came right down Main Street as opposed to how often the Dallas rush was pushed out wide and stifled.

This is the classic DeBoer pattern. He always gets handed the keys to a Ferrari but ends up never doing anything with it. He’s great at making the playoffs but stalls out. The Marty Schottenheimer of the NHL.

As a VGK fan, I saw this exact same scenario play out. VGK missed the playoffs, fired DeBoer, hired a new coach and then won the cup literally the next season.

DeBoer is also fiercely loyal to Steve Spott, an assistant who is responsible for power play strategy. Spott’s PP strategy in Vegas had gotten so stale that near the end, I could close my eyes and draw up the alignment exactly. If I as a casual fan can see that, how easy is it for coaches who get paid to do this to diagnose the strategy?

Would not surprise me at all if Dallas cuts bait. Seems like the ceiling has been reached. At some point you have to try something new.

DeBoer had Kovalchuk in NJD, when he was in the prime of his career as the most dominant LW in the game. He proceeds to take him to the right side, and takes him off the PP.

I'm not a DeBoer fan, at all.

Going into this playoffs and in years past, no way would I think Dallas would get outworked and out-physical-ed by Edmonton of all teams

That's how Colorado tends to lose to Dallas, they start playing into their game and abandon the identity.

Edmonton just flat out-everything-ed Dallas this series - it's tough to have too many opinions on what to do for Dallas after that.

I think they keep DeBoer for next year, too much success not too, then need to decide what to do with Benn and some others. The core is still there and they will be contenders for years to come.

DeBoer

After sleeping on it and listening to the pressers, I have thoughts. Definitely didn’t love him throwing Oetter under the bus in the presser. First off, Oetter saved your bacon more than once this year and he’s your franchise guy for the next like 8 years. I’d love to count how many shots over the course of the series Jake faced from the front doorstep as opposed to how many Skinner faced of that same nature. You had long stretches of time when Edmonton locked you up defensively and you couldn’t even generate outside shots, much less scoring chances. You found yourself time and again being out-hit, out-muscled, etc. Jake would’ve had to be basically perfect for you to even have a chance and even then, if he was perfect, you couldn’t score anyway.

Definitely looked like a panic move and a weak excuse for the overall failure of the team as a whole.

Because it was.

I'm not a DeBoer fan, and haven't been since he broke into the NHL while with the Panthers.

His teams are soft and lack a mentality that allows them to be successful.

He's an average coach on a good day.

He lost me when he said "we aren't built for that" when asked why we didn't do anything to retaliate or get more physical after Hintz got whacked in the shins in Game 2.

I miss the days when each team carried a tough guy who would deal out justice to deter dirty play. Other teams know that under DeBoer there will be no retaliation or justice served so the better Stars offensive threats get bullied bad. Benn used to be that guy but I feel DeBoer puts shackles on him.

The 1999 Stars team was tough as frick and ultra physical.

I honestly think the Avs series has had a lasting effect on the Stars the past two years.

That matchup takes too much out of them. They were able to survive Winnipeg this year, but the Oilers are too much to overcome while still recovering from the Colorado matchup.

That’s one reason the NHL playoffs are the best. Dallas would have had to defeat Denver, Winnipeg, Edmonton, and Florida to win the cup. They are a very good team, but they aren’t that good. That road is too tough for them to overcome. They were losing at some point.

What the hell was McDavid thinking?

I'm not one who usually believes in jinxes/curses but touching the Campbell Bowl is never a good thing for success in The Finals.
