I'm sure he had some CTE and obviously other mental issues that may not have been directly related to CTE.

He also played many years of football before he got to the NFL. His NFL career was relatively brief. How can they determine how much of his CTE was from the NFL?

Anddddd this is why football (as we know it) will cease to exist sometime within the next 25-40 years. It's going to be litigated out of existence.

Every player who ever played the game professionally is going to have CTE. Hell, I suspect if you cut open the brains of a lot of people who didn't play football you would find evidence of CTE.

Well, based on the fact that he was likely crazy and killing people before he got to the NFL, probably not much. And once you have it, you're basically done...so hard to pin it on the NFL.

They are still 25-40 years away from even having enough evidence to conduct a proper study and understand what CTE even is.

They would need to win a major lawsuit for this ever to truly effect the NFL.

Yeah, it was all the NFL's fault. It's not like he was questioned about being involved in a shooting when he was 17.

In case anyone is curious
quote:

The 2007 Gainesville shooting happened on Sept. 30, when Hernandez was a 17-year-old freshman with the Gators. The two men and a friend of theirs had left a nightclub and were in their car stopped at a light blocks away when their vehicle was fired upon, according to the statements two of the men gave to police. Corey Smith, a 28-year-old at the time who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was shot in back of the head. Justin Glass, the 19-year-old driver, was shot in the arm. Randall Cason, sitting in the back seat behind Smith, was unharmed.

Cason, then 20, told police that shooter was a "Hawaiian" or "Hispanic" male who had a large, muscular build, stood about 6-foot-3 or 6-4, weighed about 230 or 240 pounds and had a lot of tattoos. Cason said there was also a black male with the shooter, and Cason identified the black male as Reggie Nelson, a former Florida Gator who was a rookie with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Nelson, in an interview with the Gainesville police, said he had been at the nightclub earlier but denied he was even on the same street as the shooting.

"As they were waiting for the light to change, the Hawaiian football player and Reggie Nelson walked up to their car on the right side," according to the police report, which cited what Cason told detectives. "Then without saying a work [sic], the Hawaiian pointed a small handgun in the front right window and fired five quick shots. Cason saw Smith slump over with blood coming out of the back of the head, at which time the Hawaiian and Nelson took off running towards McDonald's."

That doesn't make an excuse for everything he did but the NFL is pretty screwed if a mid 20 year old actually had severe CTE

I think the more data that comes out will show it's rare to play in the NFL and not incur brain injury.

What if CTE is developed mostly when the brain is still developing (so Pop Warner and high school)? I don't know if it is or not, but neither do you or the NFL or Hernandez's lawyer. That's why this case or any of the people that are saying CTE is the end of football have no merit.

Hernandez's lawyer is posturing for the upcoming lawsuit claiming the Patriots should honor the balance of his contract/signing bonus

Apparently the "outclause" for the patriots paying the bonus was they could cancel future payments if AH was ever convicted of a crime. Per Mass state law, since AH dies before exhausting all his appeals his conviction was thrown out.

Good luck with that.

He was already a piece of shite with the Gators, he just managed to pull one over on NFL investigators until he got popped for killing a stoolie.

PFT saying the lawsuit will likely get thrown out quickly since the NFL already has a settlement with the NFLPA, so unless he opted out the class action suit from a couple years ago, he's shite out of luck

He was a piece of shite going back to junior high and high school, long before CTE could possibly be blamed for anything
