LOS ANGELES -- U.S. safety investigators said Tuesday the pilot of Kobe Bryant's helicopter flew through the clouds last year in an apparent violation of federal standards, likely becoming disoriented just before the helicopter crashed and killed Bryant and eight others.

quote:

Robert Sumwalt, chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, said that pilot Ara Zobayan was flying under visual flight rules, which meant that he needed to be able to see where he was going. Zobayan piloted the aircraft to climb sharply and had nearly broken through the clouds when the Sikorsky S-76 helicopter banked abruptly and plunged into the Southern California hills below, killing all aboard.

The helicopter companies said foggy weather before the helicopter hit the ground was an act of God and blamed air traffic controllers.

That's one way to try to get out of negligence

I’ll let Exxon or Chevron know that the next time they file suit in federal court against another oil company.

Some people do it for reasons outside of money. If she is trying to make money, I agree with you, but you wouldnt know her motive. Maybe she’d want to do it as an act of justice and so the company takes more accountability going forward.

Lemme tell 'ya...

I don't care if I had billions...if a person or company was negligent in the deaths of my wife and child, then you bet your sweet arse I'm suing.

For all you know the money awarded will be donated to a charitable organization.

But to say it's "stupid" is asinine.

Yep, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Kobe was leaning on the pilot to take off after hearing the flight might need to be scrubbed. We'll never know, and ultimately it is the pilot's responsibility.

Not to sound insensitive but when it gets foggy in California it is really bad
Instead of opting for convenience, drive your kids to the travel basketball game instead of flying like all the other parents do

I thought this was just assumed. Even if Kobe pushed the pilot to do it anyways, it's up to the pilot to tell him "no". A lawyer can't just wildly make shite up because his client tells him to, a CPA can't just fake financials because his client tells him to, ect ect. At some point, be a goddamned professional.

I’m pretty sure that it’s been stated that the main reason to sue the flight company is because the other families will probably sue her.

Well yea. The Reddit chopper pilots were all over this the day it happened. Pilot should have went around or delayed until it cleared.
