re: Nothing like spending money to go see the Warriors only for the starters not to play

One of the many reasons Jordan is the GOAT he didn't do the load management BS.

(3) Tanking is rewarded too strongly. A single player can change a franchise's fortune for a decade or more, like Cleveland getting LeBron after being the worst team in the NBA for years. I understand the need for parity, but you shouldn't be rewarded for being trash and deliberately losing.
Ice cold take here. NBA has been actively changing the odds to reduce the lottery chances for bottom tier.
Bottom 3 teams get 14% chance for first pick next year

He likes the Warriors and Suns because of Steph Curry and Devin Booker.
We’ll start making up stories about how they didn’t want to play in New Orleans because they hate the town and state, and turn him into a Pels fan

After being disappointed and pissed about not being able to see the starters for the Warriors, I think he is only a Suns fan now lol.

Golden State is a team full of cucks led by a cuck for a coach.

Yeah I'd be bummed, too. It happens. If you can't have fun at a game because of it, then I guess you shouldn't take the risk of buying tickets.
It happened to me a couple of times at the end of Barry Bonds' career. I'd drive an hour up to SF only to find out Bonds was sitting. I still enjoyed a day at the park. Had a hot dog, a couple beers, and just soaked it in.
Great perspective, friend

You have to look at the schedule and check for back to backs. I never saw Pistol live due to injury.

It definitely sucks for the casual nba fan who’s just going to see big names. As a huge Pels fan I’m going to see them win more than I am to see big name players so it’s cool with me if they want to rest starters and concede defeat

Yep, but they don't give a shite. It's not only commonplace now it is accepted and expected. From what I heard the tickets for this game were very high to watch the Pels play basically a G-League team. Unfair.

Steph Curry don’t give a damn about the kids, neither does the league.
That sucks though man, sorry that happened to you and your son. I hope he had a great birthday.

warriors do this all the time on B2B games. it's your fault for buying tickets when they play the 2nd game on B2B

How is that ice cold? You still only have a shot at a lottery pick if you don't make the playoffs. So deliberately missing the playoffs is still rewarded.
And while the bottom three teams have a 14% chance at a top pick, the "best" lottery team has just a 0.5% chance at a top pick.
To put this in better perspective, the worst team has a 100% chance of getting a top five pick. The "best" lottery team has a 97.6% chance of getting the last lottery pick.
So teams that are on the fringe of making the playoff, but have no real shot at a title are still highly incentivized to blow it up and tank - unless they have a young, talented core like Cleveland last season.
And this gets back to the root of the problem: why would anyone pay to watch a game (let alone 82 of them) if their team is deliberately trying to finish in the bottom three in hopes of landing some heralded talent in the draft?
I know Silver hates tanking and is taking some steps to reduce and punish it, but in my opinion, this is an issue that needs to be addressed with a sledgehammer rather than a scalpel.

No, he just quit in the middle of his prime to be a baseball player for two years. Load management just wasn't a thing yet, Pop basically invented it as his big three was starting to age, and unfortunately it's become too common and abused because players have too much leverage in today's game.
You could kill two birds with one stone here: reduce the number of regular seasons games so that they are more meaningful for the playoff picture and therefore guys cannot afford to take nights off, nor would players feel like they need to load manage as much if they were playing say 30% less frequently.

He doesn’t really care about the Pelicans. He likes the Warriors and Suns because of Steph Curry and Devin Booker. Does the Suns players play most of their games or do I need to look at their schedule to be on the safe side too? I saw they play New Orleans in December on a Friday and come back two days later on a Sunday.
He likes good players. He should love Ingram.

I’m sorry to hear about this. As a father, I know it stinks to see your kids let down, especially after spending all that money. Fans should be able to get at least a partial refund when that happens. Hell, even WWE handles this better than the NBA.

Somehow collectively bargain that players contracts are tied to results. The more they lose, the less they make.
I have no idea how to enforce that, but that’s the way.

I feel like coaches should be able to play whoever they want, whenever they want, for whatever reason.
The NBA I thought was putting a stop to that.

That said, fans also have the right to not buy tickets, coaches need to live with the outcomes (a game lost that otherwise likely would not have been lost), and it doesn't mean that today's NBA players aren't softer than the players of yesteryear, they are.
Fans buy tickets with an expectation that the stars will play. If they sit the stars for no reason fans should get a refund on all expenses incurred if they do choose.
