He probably isn’t but he’s the perfect case of “who else are you gonna get?”

And his buy out is $56 million right now. Drops $8 million every year.

Without question. This feat may never be replicated--especially in the NIL era.

Franklin is a football coach. If the kid can’t play and help his team he doesn’t deserve a scholarship. Not a huge fans of Franklin but kind of like his stance here.

Saban used the medical retirement route all the time to clear a scholarship opening while allowing the injured player to continue school free of charge.

It’s one thing to “medically retire” after a series of injuries or setbacks. Not all players return to a productive level after an injury and rehab, especially if the player was already at the bottom of the roster.

quote:

Seidenberg testified this would have meant the player would lose his Penn State scholarship so Franklin could offer it to another player during the upcoming offseason.

At least Saban would ensure his guys would still be allowed to attend school and earn a degree.

Seidenberg said it would have been the equivalent of disqualifying a player with a torn ACL before he received surgery.

Saban would also ensure the player received proper medical treatment.

Those who are truly struggling don’t use mental health as an excuse for not fulfilling duties, it’s truly debilitating.

The problem is there are too many instances in sports in recent years of guys doing exactly this. They use mental health as an excuse to shield themselves from media scrutiny. Ben Simmons and Calvin Ridley immediately come to mind. Guys like that make me skeptical of any athlete who goes the mental health route.

Notice how no athlete who is performing well claims to have mental health issues. They only do this when they're playing poorly and getting skewered for it.

I'd give him two years to make the 12 team playoff, then start over if he can't do that.

Didn't a similar situation happen to Kiffin last year? I seem to remember thinking, I feel bad for these guys with mental health problems, but I get why the coach might not feel so accommodating.

Good for James Franklin. Unless the school somehow caused the supposed mental issues, then the player is no longer fit to play, just like if he developed a physical issue.

Bill O'Brien going 8-4 and 7-5 at Penn State in the two years after the Sandusky scandal is the best coaching job. He has (rightfully, at times) been shite on for a lot of things that have happened since then, but he deserves enormous credit for that.

Crazy to think he’s going into his 10th season with Penn State

Successfuly for who? The whiny, entitled players? That would be hilarious because they would all get paid the same. From the star quarterback down to the back of the long snapper. They’re just entitled and stupid enough to fall for a union. So it’s James Franklin‘s fault that some kid “trying” to throw himself at a window? But somebody stopped him? How do you “try” to throw yourself out of a window? Fake BS. Just another be money grab by kids who weren’t good enough and had their scholarship taken away. You should really be able to see right through bs articles like this and pick out the agenda. It’s not hard.

So the kid jumps out of a fricking window, coach wants to revoke his scholarship (which is to play football), and people have a problem with that?

James Franklin is a piece of shite, but this isn’t evidence of that.

You can still have empathy, care, and concern for the mentally ill kid, but also have a team (a business) to run. If the kid is jumping out of fricking windows then it’s safe to say that football isn’t a high priority and since scholarships are limited, that scholarship should absolutely be applied to another player that isn’t jumping out of a window.
