That came out of nowhere.

Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard has been diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports (via Twitter). It’s a rather stunning and out-of-the-blue development, as Syndergaard looked relatively sharp in Spring Training — three runs on five hits and no walks with 11 strikeouts in eight innings — and wasn’t known to be experiencing any notable discomfort.

When the reality set in that he couldn't play for Carlos Beltran, he overthrew a fastball in rage and torn his UCL.

This is another lesson on not giving large money, long term contracts to pitchers. Mets luckily only on hook for 9.7mil(insurance will kick in eventually for a pro rate)
Play 1 game out of 5
Any injury is weeks to a month, any arm injury is months to season. And they happen a lot.
Analytics that you dicksucking nerds worship, tell you this.

Theres been several articles over the years completely refute your point. Pitchers typically return value way more than hitters if you're going to overpay. There was a big one on MLB Trade Rumors website breaking it down prior to Cole signing.

Probably has nothing to do with that but I think he has bulked up too much. He was already very strong, he should have tried to stay lean and flexible.
Seems like the bulkier he got the worse he got at pitching.

They’ve been cursed even more ever since the Axelrod sale fell through

Wow that is such a Mets thing to happen. They were favored to win the East

Best time to have it.
If the start of the season continues to get pushed back, you may start seeing many young pitchers with any sort of elbow discomfort just go ahead and get the surgery out of the way.
