Yeah this is a good call. Stern had the propensity to enforce rules in a rigid and sometimes unreasonable manner.

I haven't seen it in a while, don't remember him being out by the scorers table though.

Only pic I've been able to find. NBA hides this stuff

If it was any other team or series you would agree with this call

It would be criminal to suspend a player for that. I get that that's how the "law is written" but by that sense police should be dishing out speeding tickets in a 45 mph zone for 46 mph. It's ok to use a little common sense in these situations

Exactly this.

If Westbrook had gotten off the bench when James Johnson and Caron Butler got into last night, I would be pissed if they suspended him.

The rule is in place because of the Brawl at the Palace. Them bending the rules slightly for a non-issue is the right move, no matter the player.

That is Amare's. Completely different situation and still BS to suspend him.

He was basically at the altercation before getting grabbed back.

Good. No excuses for Indiana now.

They've already managed to lose the home court advantage TWICE in this series while playing on their home court. Of the 4 possible opponents still alive in the Eastern Conference. Indian is the team that Miami fears the least.

By the wording of the rule yes he should.

So how was he not in the vicinity of the bench?

This rule was in place well before Artest Melee. It affected a Knicks-Heat game 7 several years back. I think that was when Jeff Van Gundy ended up grabbing the legs of either Zo/Ewing/LJ (?).
