He's awesome when he's on the field.

He's just not on the field very often

Yeah exactly. He's already missed right at half of his entire professional career. Just seems like a huge risk.

I assume they're putting a lot of money up front to take advantage of Herbert on his rookie deal

Remember Eric Berry. Every few years people make some claim about being a generational talent, then they can't seem to stay on the field.

Safety is the RB of defensive backs. It ain't worth paying for.

I don't know what the specifics of the deal are but I'd bet with his injury history the deal is only the deal if he's on the field.

Deals like this make me appreciate Devin McCourty. Dude has basically been available his entire career, and been a top 3 FS most of his years in the league.

I mean that’s kind of your fault. He was a projected top 5-10 pick (ended up sliding to 17) and played at FSU with Jalen Ramsey with a ton of hype. He’s got two all pro selections since he got in the league in 2018, injuries have kept him off the field too much but he’s been one of the best safeties in the league when he is on it

He’s a very high profile player.

Minkah Fitzpatrick’s deal he just signed is roughly:
$73 million / $36M guaranteed

Derwin James:
$76 million / $42 guaranteed

Looks like his injury history was not a factor at all. Minkah’s deal was the bar for a safety contract. They simply threw a few extra million at Derwin and raised the bar.
