“Commissioner Goodell’s comments that it is ‘ridiculous’ to presume that NFL Officials are not doing everything possible to make the right call on every play is spot on,” said Scott Green, executive director of the NFLRA. “Officiating crews do not work the same team more than twice each regular season. It is insulting and preposterous to hear conspiracy theories that somehow 17 officiating crews consisting of 138 officials are colluding to assist one team.

“There are many things that fans can worry about over a 17-game season, such as coaching decisions, player injuries, the weather and, yes, even close calls on incredible plays made by incredible athletes,” Green continued. “But you can rest assured that on every single down, NFL Officials, both on the field and in the replay booth, are doing everything humanly possible to officiate every play correctly.”

This I tend to agree with. That says nothing, however, about how awful most of those 138 officials are doing at their jobs. The officiating in the NFL is at epidemic levels

I agree with the commish. Too much at steak for there to be cheating refs. Players and coaches need to own up to their lossea and quit blaming everyone else or some grand conapiracy!

That fourth down play on the part of the refs was either incompetence or helping the chiefs on purpose.

Neither is a good option.

This sounds like something that cheating officials would say.

I’m kidding, sort of.

This is the case and an actual fair take. Refs are shitty and frick shite up a lot. But if you think there's a "conspiracy" to pump up a team from a bottom 5 media market into multiple SBs, you're a fricking moron.

It's getting tiresome that we talk about officiating more than the players.

NFL has a problem (that they engineered) of really losing fans. Sports has to be Organic and when fans get a whiff that it's orchestrated, it no longer is about the sport..

Nothing makes skeptical fans feel better than being lectured to and told how preposterous they are.

A league in bed with gambling without recourse if caught manipulating outcomes and players who’ve been caught doing it. How could anyone question their integrity lol

If they cared the refs would be full time NFL employees. And NFL would have a vetting process to find out any past team bias or rooting interest. And have full time ref quality department that would review prior weeks games. And have punishment system for enough wrong calls with required remedial classes to get back to games.

Thats if they truly cared

The truly sad part is that it’s officiated better than just about any other major American sport. It’s a game that’s hard as hell to officiate with 22 superhumans going 100mph. They do an infinitely better job at calling the line of scrimmage than college football refs. It’s hard to get away with holding in the NFL. In the SEC you’ve gotta tackle a guy to get flagged for it. Illegal man downfield gets flagged 95% of the time in the league. Probably closer to 15% of the time in college. Blame the league for the roughing the passer calls, not the officials. They’re only enforcing the dumbass rule.

Comparatively, aside from a few idiots, MLB is probably the only sport officiated better.

NBA officiating is a joke. SEC football officiating is the 2nd biggest joke in the country, outshined only by SEC basketball officiating.

I would say MLB is the best but the NFL is a very close 2nd.

I don't think anyone ever bought into it.

At least the NFL has non-subjective calls (along with subjective calls) while the NBA (as Tim Donaghy revealed) it's all a fugazi , you can call whatever you want at any given time.

Its nothing more than a Rec League player calling a foul on his own defender because he missed the shot. I mean, why are we watching this sport that has no objective reality?

I don’t have to believe they’re cheating to see them give preferential treatment
