What other player do we use their draft number after their first year unless we are looking back a decade at busts?
If you say #3 overall pick everyone assumes it’s the most recent pick. If you say the first round pick for the bengals no one is thinking Burrow even though he was their first round pick years ago

I actually don’t know who this guy is. So it’s way more telling for me that his arms look like that as the #3 overall pick than just any edge guy who might be on a roster currently.
If you say “NFL edge guy” I’m seeing him and thinking “hmm, ok maybe an undrafted guy who works hard and makes it work to just barely stay on a roster.” Interesting.
Seeing #3 pick edge rusher is quite a different reaction.
