I wonder if they include the money these players earn before their degree as part of this list.

Given that LSU graduated over 3,500 this semester alone, I imagine that including one extra guy's income or not will affect that number by less than a dollar.

People keep saying this. As someone who has lived in both places, I can tell you that 1) there is a cost of living difference between Palo Alto and BR and 2) that difference is nowhere near $39,000 a year.

Just asking a question. Either way that list is pretty misleading as it pertains to recruiting football players.

Damn, those are some low-arse numbers for college graduates.

And your Stanford KIN degree isn't going to make you $119k.

This is only based on base annual salary. Everybody knows LSU grads make their money in options and incentives bonuses.

I know that Stanford graduates live in more places than in Palo Alto, and LSu graduates live in more places than in Baton Rouge, but since you limited your statement to those to cities, then I will too.

Just for the sake of comparison:

The median home sales price in Palo Alto, CA: $869,000

The median home sales price in Baton Rouge, LA: $185,000

This amounts to a difference in mortgage payments of $3700 per month, or $44,400 more per year to live in Palo Alto -- just based on the cost of housing.

from Salary.com Cost of Living Wizard (sorry link won't work):

Based on a salary of $100,000 in Baton Rouge, "The cost of living in San Jose, CA is 34.7% higher than in Baton Rouge, LA . Therefore, you would have to earn a salary of $134,709 to maintain your current standard of living."

(I used San Jose, because it was the closest to Palo Alto that the site had available.) That's a difference of $34,709.

Taking the average of the differences ($44,400 and $34,709)comes out to an approximate difference in the cost of living of $39,554.50

Sounds pretty damn close to $39,000 to me!!

how many Stanford grads move to the fly-over states after graduating? very, very few. they either stay in Cali or wind up in the northeast.

Nah, I'd say most Stanford graduates go back to the country they came from.

Of course if you open it up to other areas of the San Fransico Bay area (which is where almost a quarter of Stanford's Graduate School of Business live LINK, then that difference becomes even greater.

Oakland = 41.3% higher COL than Baton Rouge
San Fran = 72.9% higher COL than Baton Rouge

These things are wildly inaccurate.
Also, something tells me the quality of life is slightly higher in Palo Alto. Hell, they may even have better public schools to send your kids to than those beastly BR public schools

You have something more accurate? Let's use that then. You shouldn't say that something is inaccurate and then not be able to cite a better source.

Even if Palo Alto is only 30% higher COL, the point will be the same.

No one is disputing that! But guess what, higher quality of life requires higher cost of living...the money to pay for that "better life" has to come from some where

I seriously doubt any of their recruits will be in the market for a house.

if their recruits are concerned with what their salary might be after they graduate, don't you think they might be concerned with what that salary could buy them? The home prices are just as relevant (or irrelevant) as salaries....

I hope my boss doesn't see that list. He may ask for some of my money back.

using "average" stats skews things in favor of Stanford, because they will obviously have more self-made Silicon Valley techie millionaires than any of the other schools in the Top 25

"median" salary would have been a better (i.e., less skewed) stat to use to attenuate the effect of outliers

also, cost of living in Bay area is astronomical compared to the South or Midwest

of course, the high schoolers this propaganda is being spoon-fed to wouldn't realize any of this
