For the purposes of this survey, Payscale.com EXCLUDES all alumni with graduate degrees. This sample is only of persons who have earned no advanced degree from the school.
So, if you have a large law school, or school of medicine, or other specialty graduate program that spews out highly compensated employees, those are not included.
As far as athletes go, I'm not sure. The survey only includes regular status employees, and omits contractors/employees. Anybody know if NBA players are statutory employees for tax purposes?

What that graph really says is to NOT move to Idaho, Nebraska or South Carolina after you get your degree.

New Stanford recruiting tool
This isn't new. Jim Harbaugh pushed this really hard when he was hired and he became an awesome recruiter. They can pull in the top student athletes in around the country just by waving a Stanford degree in front of them. I have no clue why previous coaching staffs didn't push this harder. They sucked at recruiting until Harbaugh showed up. One thing I've heard though is that Harbaugh talked upper campus into being more lenient into allowing high school football players into Stanford which has helped a lot.

Yep.
BTW, most Stanford grads don't just stay in California. They go all over the country and all over the world, just like the alumni of most of the other private schools out there.
The bottom line is that a Stanford degree is worth more than a degree from most of your state school degrees.
However, Stanford isn't necessarily recruiting against schools like Boise or LSU or Virginia Tech. They're recruiting against Cal, Notre Dame, Michigan, and other BCS schools that are also in the top 50 academically. The alumni for those schools tend to have earnings on par with Stanford.
Still, it's a cool tool to get your name out there and to get a few more top recruits to BEGIN to consider Stanford.

I'd go (retroactively) or send my kids go there in heartbeat if they qualified and especially if they had some kind of financial assistance like a scholarship. This has nothing to do with their recent athletic success. I've assisted in teaching project management classes (hosted on campus, not for the University) and it's an unbelievable place for those who have never been.
