Straight up, New Orleans can’t support three pro teams (excluding minor league of course). I’d venture to say they’d be one of the smallest metro areas to have 3. Off the top of my head, Pittsburgh and Cleveland come to mind, but my gut says there’s more money to go around in those places.

If report true, it didn’t sound like Gayle was involved,

And this is based on the fact that the Zephyrs/Baby Cakes who were horribly run?

They could still split time with the Pelicans. Dallas does it between the Stars and Mavericks. It takes around 2 hours to convert from court to ice.

Truly the only thing the team would need is a practice facility and I think the Shrine on Airline would be the best spot to put one up.

One of the best jerseys in the ECL....

Though someone needed to tell the designer a saxophone is not a brass instrument. Should've had a tuba.

I've said this since I was old enough to have a "real" job....

If NOLA ever got an NHL team, I would buy season tickets immediately and would attend 25-30 games a season.

Pittsburgh is the smallest, and quite a bit bigger than NOLA. Hell, the Winnipeg Jets and the Packers are the only teams in smaller places, period. That being said, RSN TV money isn't driving everything anymore so who knows? I don't see it, but if somebody wants to go for it, good for them.

Doug Thornton who runs the dome / arena said he has no knowledge lol

Unlike the Dome, the SKC was built on tbe cheap and has become a dump that can’t be easily renovated. At least not the major renovations we need.

And like the Dome, the best place for an area is where it currently sits so you are looking at a tear down and rebuild.

Add a hotel, motel tax for 15 years and build a new arena.

When the ice gators, kingfish, and brass were around it sure felt like hockey was well supported in south Louisiana

I wonder is a “Louisiana” team would work somewhere not in downtown Nola where multiple cities would have easier access.

I would go to both kingfish and brass games. And by the time I had three beers in me I was telling the people next to me my hockey dad joke: why is hockey the bloodiest sport? Because it has three periods.

Would it work by Lakeside Mall so you could get the Metairie and Northshore crowd?

Or in Hammond equidistant from BR, the Northshore, and NOLA?

No

I excluded minor league because it doesn’t take 15,000 season ticket holders and big businesses to support MiLB baseball or a minor hockey team.

Read about what Utah did. This takes major financial commitment to be done correctly.

That arena was built specifically for those pro franchises. I know the Brass played in the NO Arena, but was it built FOR them? I’m sure the answer is no. I ask, because playing in an arena where you have weird seating and curtains (a la what you see in Utah) is temporary. That’s why Utah will be getting a new arena.

I’ve been to lots of venues for sporting events. As far as arenas go, New Orleans is near the bottom for me.

Salt Lake City
Denver
Glendale
Tampa
Orlando
KC
Detroit
MSG
San Antonio
Dallas
Seattle

All are nicer. I’d put the Smoothie King Center on par with Phoenix.

Maybe, but there’s no land there to put an arena capable of holding 15k people.

Hammond would be a disaster. Out of the way for everyone. I don’t mean that as an insult but imagine trying to get people from BR, Mandeville, and New Orleans area info Hammond on a Tuesday night. Wouldn’t happen.

I just said Hammond because that’s where the Interstates meet. Development is moving to that area because it’s the physical population center of 2 million people in BR, NOLA, and the Northshore
