Based on what??? Oh that’s right you weren’t even born back then…

Yeah I can't look at stats from 1985 because I wasn't born then. Brilliant logic.

People always say the rule changes in 2004 made it easier to play offense, so naturally it was easier to play defense back then. You didn't have to be born before 1985 to figure that out.

Served Siragusa when Villanova (his son was on the team) played SLU in the FCS few years back and all the Nova parents came in. I recognized him immediately and talked ball with him the entire time and he bought shots for all the Nova parents and I got a few from him as well. Incredible dude who was down to earth, RIP and thanks for making my day when I got to meet a dude I watched on FOX while growing up every Sunday

That defense was ridiculous.

The Pilejumper never met a microphone he didn’t like.

Not even close to the 1976 Steelers or the 1985 bears.
Hell I’ll even put the 86 giants ahead of them.
Steelers were winning games in the Dead Ball era when teams were scoring 14 points a game in a 14 game season.
Ravens were winning games when teams were scoring 25-30 points a game and it was SO much easier to pass by rule.
Ravens hold records for both points allowed (10.3 per game) and rushing yards allowed (970) over a 16-game schedule.
In 4 playoff games the Ravens allowed a total of 23 points, which was around the league average for 1 game!

Rarely gets mentioned but might be the best ever

They started 1-4 but won the last nine games with 5 shutouts and gave up a total of 138 points the whole season. And that Steelers D would be just as effective in todays nfl.

I always thought Ray Lewis and OJ would be best buds.

That was the best defense I've ever watched. Seemingly half their wins were 10-6 or 13-3 with the defense scoring the only TD. And before someone brings up the 1985 Bears, I was too young to see them.

I already brought up the 85 bears….

I don’t find the “this team was really good once” stories particularly compelling.
Trent Dilfer won a SB…that’s worthy of a doc.

What the Ravens did in their pass happy era dink and dunk laissez-faire rules with Trent Dilfer winning games....
16-0
12-0
Losing games...
3-10
6-9
Who the frick loses games in today's NFL only giving up 10 points or less?
The Ravens winning the SB is way more impressive anything the Steelers did in the pound and ground dead ball era...and the '85 Bears gave up a zillion points to Marino.
The 2000 Broncos were 2nd in the league in scoring and in the playoffs, they scored 3 points against the Ravens.
3 fricking points. They averaged 30.3 points a game that year.
And the Ravens actually punted more times than the Broncos and had less passing yards but won 21-3.
People don't appreciate how crazy great that Ravens D was because it was kinda a new team for a few years, relocated.
What they pulled off in today's modern NFL is a miracle and by every measure is the greatest D of all-time.

The Browns…so cursed they had to move away and change identities to win a SB
Posted on 2/4/23 at 7:04 am to BabysArmHoldingApple
2019 Tigahs woulda scored 30 on those chumps

So…. The 85 bears gave up 10 total points in three playoff games….
So a little more than 3 a game. Baltimore gave up 4 and some change. That’s two insane defenses and it’s ridiculous to say that was one far superior to the other.

The Ravens D was better bruh. Get over it

Todays teams would line up and run the ball straight up the middle and score a td on every drive against any defense from that era. The size difference from then to now would be too much to overcome. Not arguing that that Steelers D was not an all time great……..it was. But football is not comparable from that era to today. The size of the offensive linemen would be something they had never seen before.
