from stage iv colon cancer. He had kept the battle private. Roh holds the record for most consecutive starts as a UM player, starting in 51 straight games. One of the few bright spots from an otherwise bad era for the program.

Former Michigan football defensive standout Craig Roh, who played for the Wolverines from 2009-12 in multiple positions on defense, died on Monday at the age of 33, according to a social media post from his wife on Wednesday.

His wife, Chelsea, announced the news on Craig's X account, saying he had Stage IV colon cancer for 18 months. His family started a GoFundMe to raise funds for Chelsea and their 2-year-old son Max, along with helping cover medical expenses. The fundraiser had raised more than $80,000 as of Wednesday afternoon. According to GoFundMe, Roh had been privately battling his advanced colon cancer diagnosis for the past year and a half, going through chemotherapy and clinical treatments.

Roh was a four-year starter for the Wolverines and set the record for the most consecutive starts in program history at 51 while moving between outside linebacker, defensive end, and defensive tackle. Roh did not miss a game while playing for the Wolverines over his four-year career

RIP Craig.

This is purely anecdotal, but I feel like I’m hearing more stories of young people getting late stage colon cancer.

I also know that health insurance companies can be strict about covering colonoscopies if you are under 40

I’m pretty sure I saw recently cancer in people under 40 is the highest it’s ever been.

It’s higher, but it’s a very small increase still. Americans being more obese with a poorer diet overall isn’t helping I would imagine

It is almost just as likely to have your health negatively impacted from discovery of a disease that would not progress with the same negative impact as the medicine that is applied does. Double edged sword sometimes.

Geez. Sad to hear this news. I certainly remember him playing at UM. I'm also his age at 33. This makes me want to get checked. Prayers for his family.

My doctor had me have a colonoscopy about 6-7 years ago due to my mom having colon cancer when she was 35. Due to me being in my early 30’s insurance didn’t want to cover it so my doctor had to figure out a way to get the insurance to cover it.

Doctor said when I turn 40 it’s time for another one. I turn 40 in a few weeks. I hate the prep the day before.

Hate hearing about someone so young dying from colon cancer. RIP

eh

getting your colon checked is pretty important. colon cancer tends to be a survivable cancer when caught early with no symptoms, basically only way to catch it like that is through screenings

as opposed to waiting till your symptomatic. you basically go from like a 90% chance of survival to 50

Good buddy of mine, age 40 with 3 girls, just got diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

Asked him what the symptoms were. He basically said bloody stools.

I immediately got mine checked (just turned 40). I had 5 polyps. Got the call Monday they were benign. Said to come back in THREE years.

Never too early to get your shite checked. Literally.

They’re not about covering preventative procedures.

I have a history of kidney cancer in my family. My dad died from it and my grandmother had it. (His mother)

At 35 I went to get my first screening. Doc wanted to do a CT scan. Insurance wouldn’t cover it. Settled for an ultrasound. I get why insurance doesn’t want to cover it, but with a clear family history it does feel like a little bit of bullshite.

medical field has wanted men to get checked as early as 35-40, Insurance and their medical allies don't want to be paying for that shite at 35, so they continue the charade that 50 is when u should be checked.
