Nebraska taking the USC hiring approach is a bold strategy.

Most of the blue blood programs eventually go through a similar phase.

Howard Schnellenberger‘s single season at Oklahoma was a disaster, and he was an outsider. So they replaced him with John Blake for the sole reason Blake had strong ties to Switzer. Blake’s three seasons were the worst in their history.

They then risked hiring another outsider, and Stoops won a NC two years later, but Sooner fans hated him at first because of his his offensive scheme. Mike Leach wasn’t running the wishbone.

Alabama only hired coaches with strong ties to Bear Bryant for the longest time. After the Dennis Francione/Mike Price era ended in embarrassment, they once again turned to their roots by hiring Mike Shula.

Michigan is still returning to Bo Schembechler disciples.

The "one of us" hiring system is a giant sign of organizational dysfunction and typically takes years or decades to recover from

Correct

quote:

The team was not losing money

Were they making a lot of money?

It was a shitty situation, but Alberts was specifically hired as AD at UNO so start moving some athletic programs into Division 1. Which with budgets and T9, means some programs have to be cut. Football was a no brainer, wrestling certainly was the tough one.

I have no idea if Alberts is a good hire. My gut says he's probably fine. Moos was the bravado, big idea talker that seemed to never be very in tuned with the day to day activities of running the AD. Alberts at UNO was always known as being pretty meticulous and data driven

Nebraska and LSU have played 6 football games. LSU has never beaten Nebraska. In .the 1971 Orange Bowl, LSU had the number ONE defense in country.. Nebraska could not be stopped on their final drive. LSU gave Nebraska its 1st National Football Championship. Nebraska totally dismantled Florida and Spurrier in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl…62-24.

Keep bashing Nebraska verbally…that’s all you can do.

Just curious... did you happen to attend the Nebraska-Southern Miss game back when they played in Hattiesburg in the early-2000s?

And you can keep talking about events that happened 30 years ago. That's all you can do

Southern Miss has a better record against Nebraska than LSU.

No one cares about what Nebraska's was. So many things have changed that allowed their rise to be possible. They are irrelevant now. And look to continue to be for the foreseeable future.

I was shocked by this at first also, having heard that name in years.

But he’s been the AD at Nebraska-Omaha since 2009 so this doesn’t seem like an unreasonable hire at all. No idea how his time in Omaha was, but he certainly has the experience at this point.

No, I was asking a serious question. Were you there? I attended that game, and sat with a guy who went to Southern Miss, but who was a big Nebraska fan. Strangely, his sister was also there, and she went to Florida State, but was also a Nebraska fan. I met Tommie Frazier at that game.

Nebraska fans are a strange breed. If I'm not mistaken I think it was Southern Miss that beat the Huskers in Lincoln one year, and after the game the Nebraska fans gave the Golden Eagles a standing ovation. I can't picture LSU fans ever giving an opposing team a standing ovation

I suppose that's better than teabagging the other Teams fans

This kinda feels like Craig James becoming AD at SMU. (Except for that whole hooker thing.)

New AD wanting to make his mark. I'd bet money frost is gone with another shite-tastic season.

He won't be gone unless they go 2-10. However, he will be forced to make some staff changes, something he's been unwilling to do to this point.

Wtf does this have to do with anything. John Mackovic and Texas defeated NU in the ‘96 Big 12 title game. Let’s make that relevant to this discussion somehow…
