I was surprised baseball and football were so close considering the differential in number of players per roster between the two sports until I saw that there were 299! Division 1 baseball teams.

There are over 250 Division 1 football teams, as well.

I always hear about the decline of football these days. It’s nice to see that it is the most played high school sport by far.

When you consider the sheer number of HS football teams in this country with the range of roster spots from as low as 15 - 125+ per school team, that participation number compared to the probability of playing NCAA-it doesn't bode well for the collegiate planning.

1 of my favorite stats right now is that the State of Texas graduates MORE student athletes in an academic year than the State of LA graduates ALL students in a given year.

When you think of that in regards to the posted numbers, the math gets really interesting.

Not at all surprised by this. Crazy how many lax kids get recruited. It’s all a numbers thing.

The question should be how many high school athletes wanted to play in college but didn’t get the opportunity because a team wouldn’t pick them. Then you’ll see the real disparity in men and women sports.

Do you mean along the lines of a HS kid that wants to go to NCAA D1 School "X" but he's not really even good enough for NCAA D3 School "Y" so he just goes to School "Z" for academics?
