I’ve been watching YouTube clips of old NBA players. During an interview with Barkley he was ask if he was better than Bird. He conceded that Bird was the better pure shooter, but Chuck said he was the better player overall. He wished he had McHale and Parish as teammates. Is there a consensus of opinion as to who was the better player?

Was Bird as fun to watch as Steph? He was definitely a more complete player but for some reason it seems to me that people don't gush over his playing style like they did MJ Kobe Magic or Steph.

Because Bird basically just rose up in a crowd of people and drilled a jump shot. It’s not that exciting to watch but damn was it impressive

I don’t think there’s a wrong answer to this question.

He was everywhere. Played hard like Dennis Rodman but shot with precision from all distances. Wish I would have appreciated what I was watching back then.

Bird easily.

Bird won 3 NBA MVPs in a row (which only 3 players have done) and finished 2nd 6 times. Between 1980-1989 Larry Bird received 67% of MVP votes.

Barkley won 1 dubious MVP and then got crushed in the Finals by Jordan.

Barkley couldn't even drink beer with Bird. He said on the Dream Team he hung out with Bird one day and was so hungover the next day after just drinking a bunch of Bud.

Bird. And it's not even close. And I love Chuck.

Barkley's numbers are better than I thought they would be

I don't remember watching Barkley as much as I saw Bird. He was amazing. He was must watch TV. Barkley was a great player but Bird was on a different level. Bird just had an attitude about him and he broke people mentally

Sort of where Bill Simmons ranked them in his big book of basketball.

Bird #5
Barkley #19

Chuck wasn't the outside shooter that Bird was, but he was very efficient(sp). He could get you thirty on 15 or so shots.

And he won. Unlike Barkley. Destroyed the 76ers with Dr. J and Barkley.

That infamous fight between Bird and Dr. J? Where Barkley was holding Bird around the neck so Dr. J could get in some punches?

Well the Celtics were up about 30 points...Bird had about 40 points himself to Dr. J's 6-8 points and was jawing all day at Dr. J...talking trash to the whole Sixer team. Bird rubbed it in your face. He knew he was better than anyone in the league.

Its Bird by the same margin you'd put a LeBron over a Paul George.
