Was thinking the same thing. Very odd that would "happen" at this exact moment during all this trade talk.

Is that what was keeping him out of soooo many games last season?

Maybe that's why he was a putrid shooter?

So maybe his value goes up?

I hope so.

Would be nice for him to start 2018-19 on fire and then trade his arse away(if Lebron is in L.A.).

So with DeAndre opting out, does this rule out a trade with Dallas?

I’d guess so

Yes, but Dallas probably has enough cap space to sign him to a deal without giving anything up. Seems like the Clippers may have wanted an asset from Dallas, and Dallas had no motivation to do that if they can can sign outright.

ETA: better deal for Dallas anyway, because I don’t see him signing for more than the high teens on a yearly basis. I could see something like 3/57.

How do you figure that? Dallas could still go after Randle. If DAJ opted in, it would have been better news for you, because it would have been likely due to him being traded to Dallas.

I thought Dallas would only do that if they sent Matthews back, basically only adding only like $6m in contracts. So now whatever they pay DAJ will come out of their cap space, right?

How much cap space does Dallas have?

Albert Nahmad @AlbertNahmad Mavs will enter the free agency with the ability to create up to $28M of cap room ($30M if they rescind Yogi Ferrell’s qualifying offer). They can repay Dirk for declining his $5M team option with, at a minimum, a two-year $9M R-MLE deal.

So they’re saying they can open up an additional 28 mill to the cap room they have now?
