Cleveland would have to move a lot of pieces to make it back to the Finals. Boston and Philedelphia are going to be better than the Cavaliers this year.

The Cavs losing Love for George would not swing things in the Cavs favor. Would need something else to happen. Maybe a trade for Kemba Walker who is available.

If he opts in, it's in a scenario like what Paul did last offseason. Where, it's conditional due to a trade. He's not going to opt in and then demand a trade. If he opts in, there's a trade already setup.

Otherwise, why would he even opt in?

Could he not opt out and do a 1+1 and still do a trade? He's guaranteed himself another year of $ in case of a horrific injury.

Thompson seems to be the lifeblood of the Warriors. Durant is still going to get good looks no matter who is guarding him. Thompson is their set shooting assassin.

This is why the Warriors are so dangerous. You can shut down one of their big 3 scoring options and still see the other two go for over 40. Lebron has seen it for two years now and know something has to change.

Spurs want to trade with Boston and are using the Lakers as leverage.

Spurs are leaking news favorable to the Lakers to entice Boston to give up more assets.

That’s what I think is going on here.

Or the exact opposite. They know that's the only leverage that can pressure the Lakers.

I don’t think so. He could only do a sign and trade with a team that’s under the tax iirc.

He could, but in that scenario the Cavs could tell him to go fly a kite, unless they are getting something of value back from the trade.

If I'm the Cavs, I'm not signing and trading him unless I get some real assets back.

The team that he does the S&T with would have to end up below the apron which is ~127 mil.

Once Lebron declares he is testing free agency the Spurs begin to lose leverage over the Lakees. Tomorrows opt out deadline is pushing this.

The Lakers should tell the Spurs to pick between Ball and Ingram, but have to either find a trade partner for Deng or take him themselves. Then assets such as Randle sign and trade, Kuzma and Wagner are in play as well.

If the Lakers have Leonard, Ball, and Hart as the only players under contract tomorrow night then they are very happy.

theoretically they could be moving the assets in a deal somewhere else for a big time player he wants to play with

They don't have the assets to get a big time name. They have Love and Sexton.

It's a weird dynamic where him opting in is actually not a good sign for Cavs fans because that would elminate some of the teams that (we think) he's considering.

If the Lakers wind up with Leonard, PG and Ball, all three of those guys are either lockdown or above average perimeter defenders.

That team is well situated to match GS. If the 4/5 are LeBron and Randle, Randle is the only question mark and you can hide him on Draymond or Iggy. Beyond that, you have a lot of really good, interchangeable perimeter defenders.

Probably could not afford Randle with the big 3.

But a Dwight Howard on a minimum deal would work.

not impossible. but there would be some hurdles that would have to be cleared to make it work
