its the other way around. they probably tried to move him to boston for brown or tatum. the celtics told them to frick off. now they are pushing the narrative that the lakers need kawhi to be the first domino in order to make lebron happen while also saying there is a market developing. its a game of chicken. i really believe kawhi is getting moved today or tomorrow. its going to come down who blinks first between the lakers and the spurs. just my opinion

I agree with this. I don't think Boston really wants to trade for Kawhi at this point. Boston has horded assets for too long to blow them on a player that may be a one year rental. They are better off keeping their young assets and trying to win the championship in 3 or so years when the Warriors fall off.

Why would Boston want to trade Brown and Irving for Leonard?

Leonard going to the Lakers is good for Boston. Pulls Lebron to the west. Prevents the Sixers from getting that third piece to challenge them. Also creates a 90's type scenario that the Bulls benefited from. A lot of the elite talent was in the other conference allowing you to be rested come finals time.

Boston then can cruise to the finals. Wait for the Warriors, Rockets, Lakers or Pelicans in the finals and be rested with depth.

Boston with
PG - Irving
SG - Heyward
SF - Brown
PF - Tatum
C - Horford

Is still as good as any team but the Warriors and with a few ring chasers that want to play in the east they could be better.

If Boston is going to go after one player and unload assets it is a trade for Davis.

Why trade Brown and Irving for Leonard when Tatum, Irving, and some picks could get you Anthony Davis

My biggest question is why are the Lakers suddenly so hellbent on emptying the farm to trade for Kawhi?

Could Lebron be putting pressure to say that if Kawhi or PG don't have a deal in place to be on the team by tomorrow, he's seriously going to consider opting in?

Wojnarowski: The Lakers are willing to include former No. 2 overall pick Brandon Ingram and a future first-round pick in a package for Leonard, but the Spurs are seeking a far more complete haul of Lakers young players and future picks, league sources said.

what does a love trade look like? seems like the cavs would value picks over players

It might be the Cavs trying to get in on the Kawhi trade. Something like Love and PHX assets to Spurs, Aldridge to PHX, and Kawhi to Cavs. Obviously there would be more to it than that with picks and lesser players moved, but something like that may work.

I think a Love trade signals that Cleveland knows Bron is gone so it's rebuild time.

Eh not necessarily. I don’t think he staying but theoretically they could be moving the assets in a deal somewhere else for a big time player he wants to play with

If he's opting in, it's not because he wants to stay with the Cavs. If he's staying with the Cavs, at a minimum he's going to opt out and sign another 1+1.

Lebron knows the Warriors have a stacked team capable of beating almost all the teams that have won championships in the past.

Lebron needs a big time player to go into those games with. I don't think George is good enough to tip the balance in Lebrons favor. Leonard however is. He can lock down Thompson and score 25 ppg.

A Lakers team with Leonard, James, Ball, and Randle is still a 3rd or 4th seed in the west. In this scenario the Lakers would have a little bit leftover to spend on free agents.

However a Lakers team with Leonard, Ball, James, George and ring chasers is better than everyone not named the Warriors.
