In non Lebron news. Adidas has to pay Derrick Rose 14.5 mil because he’s in an NBA roster this year

His line about toppling Boston made no sense. Boston made his arse quit and run to Miami. Boston was built for a short run.

Not sure why New Orleans would do it unless they’re getting serious assets back

I'd do it for Deng/Kuz/1st in 2023

ETA: I really don't think that there's anyway that the Lakers want Cousins, the risk is too high that he never reaches 80% of his previous form and they end up wasting LeBron's last years there.

Lakers are setting themselves up to have two of the following three.

Leonard - Can get now. If now it must include Deng to make one of the next two viable.
Butler
Thompson

This year the team has done one year rentals to make it to the playoffs. Next year is when the run begins. It happens to coincide with either Thompson or Green leaving the Warriors.

The whole Kawhi thing is absolutely fascinating to me. The Spurs will not get anywhere near his value in any trade so do they let him sit a year and rust? That would be great petty move of the year by Pop. Maybe he wants stick it to Leonard more than he wants even a modest return. That would be awesome

This probably won't even happen. Thompson was already talking about taking a 50 mil paycut to keep them together.

Kawhi really fricked them over throughout this. I find Pop getting pushed around absolutely hilarious. He must be so god damn mad. His ego is massive and he seems to be in a no win situation. I love this league.

I think Pop settles for a half price deal from Philly and Kawhi is a Laker by this time next year.

The whole Kawhi situation is so bizarre and because Kawhi is a mute and the Spurs are the Spurs we will probably never find out what really happened

Pop is mad, this is equivalent to a revolt by Brady for BB.

But I'd do the same if I'm pop

Kevin O’Connor

quote:

With LeBron officially agreeing to sign with the Lakers, it’ll be fascinating to monitor what type of leverage the Spurs can create for Kawhi Leonard, who still desires to play for the Lakers, according to multiple league sources—all of whom say offers to the Spurs have been underwhelming. One executive said the proposed packages have gotten worse with each round of negotiations, while another said they’re flat-out unacceptable. That might change if the Lakers are determined to add their second star now. Multiple league sources suggest the Lakers could send a package to the Spurs featuring Ingram, multiple first-round picks, a sign-and-trade involving Randle, and possibly Josh Hart. If the Lakers play hardball, it’ll be difficult for the Spurs to create any leverage if Leonard is indeed hell-bent on joining the Lakers by any means necessary. It’s easy to cite Paul George’s decision to re-sign with the Thunder for four seasons as an optimistic result for teams (like the Celtics and Sixers) willing to roll the dice on one year of Leonard. But Kawhi isn’t George. George’s result has nothing to do with Leonard or anyone else.

Sixers should swoop in at this point if the Lakers aren't offering much

Probably but the curveball in all this is no one expected the Lakers to get Lebron and actually have cap space for a max contract next summer. Everyone assumed it would be Lebron + PG. This has destroyed all leverage San Antonio thought they would have ones the dominoes fell imo

Can the Lakers even trade for Kawhi unless it's a Randle sign and trade or Deng is involved? They don't have the salaries to match.

If they stretch Deng or renounce Randle, they would have enough space to make the trade without the salaries matching I think.

They're at the cap. Renouncing Randle opens up 10, stretching Deng creates 11 so they'd have to do both.

Well, if the Spurs wanted added value with the "getting Kawhi means getting Lebron" angle, now that Lebron is with LA, the offers should be getting worse.

Ingram, Ball, and two of Kuz, Hart, Zubac, would work in regards to salaries if they don't include Randle or Deng.
